The sign up thread already has some images being posted, so I thought I would go ahead and start an images thread for the over achievers. If you want to start posting and wow us with your drive, feel free! Or you can be a slacker and wait until June :-)

I'll keep the other thread up and add users to from either.

1. Post as often as you can, but no specific requirements.

2. Edit as much or as little as you like, but stick within one ruleset for each photo. (Basic, advanaced, expert, etc.)

3. Post the before photo along with the after. If you want to explain your processing steps,(or lack of) feel free. If you want to keep it a secret and leave us wondering...that's cool.

Any rules I forgot?

The list so far, in no particular order. Yell at me if I missed somebody.

QUESTION: Would you guys prefer if people comment on the BEFORE image or the AFTER????

My guess would be "AFTER" because that is the "presented" work. The before just shows what we started with.

I prefer you comment on whatever image inspires you to say something ... ;-)

It's like ... day and night ...?

I would prefer comments on the after and whether or not the efforts were:

1. technically acceptable
2. the work done makes sense.

My thoughts are that it is the transition that is to be critiqued.

I thought I would add the source of the eyes.

I had to get a head start since I have a lot going on. I added a folder in my portfolio called before and after for all these images as well.

here is my first one.

before and after

I suppose this would fall under the expert editing ruleset.

Before:

After:

In a nutshell,

- High key conversion (brighten the shadows and all the colors in lightroom and further in photoshop).
- Tweaked tones using curves and exposure adjustment layers (lighten them everywhere except the face).
- Added more hair using the standard grass brush that comes with photoshop.
- Moved rim of hat upward a bit (used a duplicate layer for this and a mask then used the clone tool to fix alignment issues).
- Since I moved up the hat a little I need eyes so I grabbed those from another photo I took of her in a similar pose.
- Added white vignette (used a paintbrush and a mask).
- Did additional spot cloning, blurring, etc to fine tune things a bit.
- Smart sharpen.
- Some basic color work (changed all colors except lips to yellow in one and desaturated in the other.)

That's it I think.

I would like to play toO!

Question: Can we use old photos or have to shoot something the day we submit.. I'm hoping the old ones : )))

I suggest you post old examples over here in the "Anyone interested ..." thread, and keep this thread for the newly-taken images. But the OP may not care -- this thread is not running under DPC rules exactly ... :-)

Thanks for the add! I'm excited..

I guess I should be specific.. by old photos I just mean photos I've already taken but not necessarily posted on here or anywhere before. I just wanted to clarify if we have to shoot, alter, and post the same day... that would be kinda exhausting.

There are a few of my old favorites that I edited back when I knew less about editing than I know now. I may work a few in if the new shot's get slow. If I do, maybe I'll post the out of the camera, my previous edit, and my new edit.

I like the side challenges because they encourage me to get out and shoot something all of the time, and thus I try things I wouldn't have thought to try before. but bottom line is that I won't be checking date stamps or anything! ;-)

OK, OK, I'll throw something in here a little early as well. This is a picture that I originally shot and edited over the winter. Since joining DPC I've had a lot more practice with Photoshop, so I decided to give this one another go. I'm much happier with it now. lol

I shot it in jpeg. I know, I know!
