Was looking at the galleries again today. The highest rated in particular. What an amazing bunch of pictures that is. However, I suspect it is not only me who realises that the scores were a bit more lenient in the old days. Competition is stiff in DPC these days and it is almost impossible to score over 8. That is not necessarilly bad, it does however mean that you can't really beat the "Eight Ball" by langdon or the "Splash of Color" by Rackat unless you produce something out of this world (all respect to those entries btw). Isn't it a bit sad that the best 3 ranked pictures of all time are all from 2002? Is that 6 years ago or what?

What I was wondering then, is whether we can get the best rated pics ever, say one hundred, two hundreds of them and put them in their own challenge. No more submissions, just sit down and rate them again. Against each other. No matter what the theme, the competition or whatever. Just choose the best of the best and produce the definitive DPC hall of fame.

Maybe there's another idea of out-of-competition voting...

Certainly an interesting idea. The only downside is that everyone would know who took what photo. Can there truly be inpartiality without anonymity? Then again, it may not be such a big deal.

On a side note, it may be good to also do 'Best of 2007' (and on for each year) for all the blue ribbon winners with a special monster ribbon (or dare I say, prize) for the winner. The interesting part is that one contestant could claim both the blue and the brown for a single entry.
