It's the miracle of the digital display.

You weigh 11 pounds 57 ounces????

Hum, maybe I should stand with both feet on the scale next time (or at least put all the weight on the on-the-scale foot). :-P

I've got a book somewhere I can share is you'd like. If my husband can do...ANYONE can do it. He's such a baby and won't do anything too difficult when it comes to this kind of stuff, lol. They say this cleanse should be done in the spring and again in the fall. :)

I'm 52 years old, have changed my diet radically, and the results have been very dramatic by using good common sense, a careful eating & exercise plan, and changing my behavior.

I'm going to take a pass on this as 10-14 days with no nutritional value whatsoever cannot possibly be a good thing for me.......especially with the exercie I'm doing.

I would imagine that this would be a pretty serious shock to my system.

I have to agree with you. There are no short cuts in weight loss. I have found this out over the years that I have been overweight and that's why I have not lost any and actually gained in the process.

The hardest thing right now is the liquid calories that has no nutritional value at all (soda, sweet tea, etc) but I'm getting better and drinking more water. I have found that if I take a cold bottle water and put ice inside the bottle I enjoy the taste.

I had a co-worker that swore by this to lose weight. He'd do it for 20 days [and be incredibly grumpy the entire time] he lost anywhere from 14-25 pounds everytime he did it, but would gain it all back within a month or two. The problem he had is it did nothing to change his habits, which is the key to losing weight and more importantly keeping it off.

Captain, we appear to be in a holding pattern:

Weigh in:

5/2 217.8 lbs | 32.2 BMI
5/9 217.1 lbs | 32.0 BMI | - 0.7 lbs
5/16 214.4 lbs | 31.7 BMI | - 2.7 lbs
5/23 214.2 lbs | 31.7 BMI | - 0.2 lbs = - 3.6 lbs total weight lost

I'm actually pretty happy about this as I thought I was going to gain this week.

BTW to Jeb - Just saw your "reality check" comment to me from last week. Thanks for the perspective. (On the other hand, I seem to remember that you're pretty tall, and I'd kill to not be 5'9" myself. :P )

I've been kind of watching this thread on and off. I applaud everyone's efforts to lose weight. I know first hand it isn't easy! In 2004 I weighed 234 pounds. Today, I weigh around 140. It wasn't through any fad/popular diet or paying a company to buy their food. It was a complete overhaul of how/what I ate and exercising. Specifically, increasing my water intake and walking helped a great deal. I also stopped eating at fast food places and cut out junk food. I never weighed myself as for me, it puts too much pressure on the psyche. I measured my weight loss by the clothing size(s).

Again, I applaud and wish everyone the best to lose weight - be it 10 pounds or 100 pounds. Be determined, listen to your stomach and stop when your comfortable. Find a walking buddy and take it one day at a time. For me, I never had an end/goal weight, just concentrated on the "today," and never beat yourself up mentally if you have a "bad" eating day.

BEST OF LUCK TO ALL! :-)

ps - By the way, I'm a meat and potatoes kind of woman, who calls herself a non-vegetarian, eats fruits and still enjoys chocolate, bread and other yummy stuff.

OK, thanks for the reality check! 18 weeks 30.8 lbs. It's just I want to lose another 36 or so ... and at the slow rate it worries me. But this is pretty amazing so far.

tortoise pace!

Umm.....

No comments like that!

How much have you lost to date?????

What's your percentage of your goal lost????

It gets harder to lose weight in larger increments and/or fast once the initial drop is done.

You're making forward progress.....it's ALL good!

Congrats!

Unfortunately no weight loss for me this week - 156, same as last week ☹ ☹!

Next Friday I'll go to Europe for a while and have high hopes for loosing a bit more, being on the road, more active and hopefully good weather for some beach and swimming, cycling etc.

Let's not get discouraged!!!

Long, windy, sappy, rambling, starry-eyed message.....ignore NOW if you're not in the mood, or just don't wanna hear my story.

That said......I went to a friend of mine's funeral today. He was four months younger than me. He was sitting in his living room last Saturday morning, reading the newspaper, getting ready to watch the Preakness. He had a massive coronary and died on the spot.

Too young; today was their 27th wedding anniversary, and this was just wrong on multiple levels. I will miss him.

BUT......I see too many parallels between his life and mine up 'til about six months ago when my doctor told me I could do something about my physical condition......or deal with diabetes, heart trouble, and essentally have a quality of life that would be lesser should I continue to ignore the warning signs, and all good sense, of where I was headed.

He scared me.....badly, but not remotely as badly as my friend's death last Saturday did.

I made up my mind about six months ago that I didn't want to have to live affecting damage control......old age and deterioration is tough enough without handicapping myself with being as my doctor put it, "Morbidly Obese". That's a truly unpleasant thing to hear. I was ashamed of the way I looked, scared of the way I felt virtually all the time, and just plain miserable. I could sense my wife's fear and frustration with/for me, and I didn't like that much, either. I had reached the end of my rope.

I was 52 years old, 360 pounds, and couldn't walk across the room without being out of breath, and couldn't buy clothes outside of big & tall shops. I had fairly serious respiration issues, sleep apnea, and edema in my lower legs....my BMI was 44.99 and I was fundamentally a heart attack waiting to happen. The site info:

"BMI is over 40 (Obese Class 3 : Morbid Obesity)
With a BMI of 40+ you have an extremely high risk of weight-related disease and premature death. Indeed, you may have already been suffering from a weight-related condition. For the sake of your health it is very important to see your doctor and get specialists help for your condition."

Today I weigh 263.6 pounds, my BMI is 32.87, my blood pressure is 101/60, and I feel like a completely different person.

I am still some 50-60 pounds overweight.....this is the description on the BMI Calculator page for the value I have right now:

"Individuals with a BMI of 30-34.99 are in a physically unhealthy condition, which puts them at risk for serious ilnesses such as heart disease, diabetes, high blood pressure, gall bladder disease, and some cancers. This holds especially true if you have a larger than recommended Waist Size. These persons would benefit greatly by modifying their lifestyle. Ideally, see your doctor and consider reducing your weight by 5-10 percent. Such a weight reduction will result in considerable health improvements."

Now here's the reality......I am down from a 48 inch waist to a 40, no more sleep apnea, no more aches and pains, I don't use my asthma rescue inhaler at all, I have wind and strength, and I feel completely different. And having been working at the gym since early February, I'm healthier than what my BMI indicates.

I am no longer miserable and ashamed of myself......and the fear is gone.

I am just following common sense and making the commitment to myself to live.

The returns in my comfort and the way I feel both physically and mentally are just off the charts.

It does take time and strength of will, but anyone can do this.

I choose to live, I choose to have a bright outlook on what I'm doing, and I will be happy to be upbeat and supportive to anyone who wants to do something about their condition.

Last and certainly not least to all you who are doing this to lose less weight than what I have to go yet......Kudos to you for doing something before having to confront the danger of serious health problems.

I've been going to the gym a LOT lately, and I can actually feel my body changing.

I'm nopt really worried about this little increase as this weekend was a little rough on the diet.

I'm still down 6.6 pounds overall....I can live with that.

Got a new scale this week an immediatly found that the old one wasn't accurate, so the fact that I'm now down to 225.74 means I've actually lost more than 1 pound... more like 2... so we'll call it 1.5 :)

I'm stick at 152. That means I'm down 4 pounds total, so I won't complain. I just wish I could get it to come off faster! I seem to be lacking a certain motivation!!! GRRRR.

I blame Italy and its heaps of tasty food (which for some reason they are allowed to export to other countries) for my lack of progress. :-(
