I finally did it! Today, I ordered the AlienBees DigiBee lights package. I have not gotten to work with studio lights much since college so I am super excited to jump back into studio work. Lots of learning ahead of me again...
cheers,
JKH

Might want to take a valium. It makes waiting for the Big Brown Truck a bit easier. Enjoy the lights, I love mine. Although I don't get to play with them as often as I wish I could.

I myself have also been considering bees for a while, I was wondering what each of you own and the experience thus far with them. Are you happy with them and what models do you own.

Thanks
Rich

Congrats on the new lights also, hope you have a great time with them.

Congratulations, I've had a chance to use one of my friend's AlienBees awhile back and I thought they were built super well with a reasonable price to boot. I vow to get a set of my own, but I've been making due with a couple of slave flashes and various umbrellas/softboxes for the time being.

I have 4 AB-800s and a pile of accessories. Haven't had any problems with them apart from they are a tad bright at times. Because of that I have to set Ap around F/5.6- F/8 which does little to soften the backdrop.
I have a giant softbox and a beauty dish along with various gel filters a snoot and a few honeycombs which help to dampen the light but it can still be pretty bright. I am going to be taking some photos of a friends new Car next week. We are going to park it by a lake with the sun setting in the background and light it with the bees I will be posting some shots of that after we are done. The 800s work real nice outdoors when you have more space to work with. Overall I am very happy with all my AB Gear. Also would like to note. They have some awesome customer service reps. Actually some of the best customer support I have encountered with online purchase. 5 stars for them.

I have three B800s and I love them! They are perfect for what I need them for. I do photography as a hobby (for now) and spend money on photography equipment because I love doing it, not neccessarily because I can justify it financially :) As for quality, the ABs have a little difference in color cast after repeated use. However, in digital photography, this is remedied easily in photoshop. I recently added a couple of Brolly Boxes to my equipment list and they are working wonderfully until I can afford to get some giant softboxes. I think my next lighting purchase will be the Alien Bees Ring Flash and a vagabond power pack so I can move outside to shoot without needing 3,800 feet of extension cords!

I had the Digibee Package as well. AB400's. I sold them and opted for a more portable studio with stands, umbrellas, and 3 Canon Flashes. Much easier on the go.

Ive got a pair ob AB800's myself. Ive been pretty happy with the setup, a good value for the money. The current model wireless remotes work but are a bit flaky. Paul is coming out with his new cybersync remotes which should be light years ahead of his current models. If your looking for cheap wireless triggers my recommendation would be to get them instead of the RTF1 system.

The little brown truck stopped by today with my lights! My light meter should be here on Monday. :)
