Today I went out taking picture till night. When I got home I notice on this picture and a few more some sensor dust. I have a 40D with the sensor cleaning on and I don't change lens much. When I do I hold the camera facing down away from dust or wind. When in the car I turn of the a/c while changing lenses.

Is the a common amount of dust for a 40D (only 5 months old) with only a 1568 shutter count. OR is it possible i'm doing something wrong!!!
NOTE: this is a shot taken a f32.
Processing: 150% brightness/100%contrast to bring out the dust spots. Circled all I could see and resized to 800x533.

When you shoot at small aperture like f/32, you will notice a lot of dust spots, try to shoot at f/8 and larger (your image will get softer as you close down your aperture due to diffraction). The sensor cleaning on your 40D helps with shaking off dust, it does not eliminate the dust completely

I'm pretty sure my 6-month old 7000+shot 40D has as much dust (or even more because I change lenses a lot) as yours, but I barely notice any dust because I always shoot at f/8 and larger.

To eliminate the dust you saw, you need to physically clean your sensor, you can try this on your own (just google sensor cleaning) or you can have Canon Service Center do it for free. Check with your country's Canon Factory Service Center.

Good luck

Camera settings should make no difference in dust bunnies.
You have 'em or you don't.
Awesome camera, I would just love to have one.

You look like you have around the same number of dust bunnies as I do, and they start showing up at f/22 and above (which I seldom shoot). I've had my 40D since October, and I don't think I've ever cleaned the sensor manually except the time I went and changed the lens with a forest fire burning and the wind blowing in my direction... 8( If those dust bunnies really bother you, I'd try the blower and/or the old Copperhill method.

A good chance to try out that 'dust delete data' feature? :)

I too had the 40D and had the same problem.
I'm still convinced they were there when I bought it but I can't prove it now.

I tried blowing etc. but it only removed a few.
In the end I bought an arctic butterfly. This worked very well with one warning....

I was a bit too clubsy and I think I touched the sides of the sensor where there is some form of grease or something. This got a bit smeared over the sensor, but it slowly was removed by repeated cleaning with the butterfly.

Moral of the story, be careful but you can remove the dust.
