ROFL - this I want to see :- )

Just had a not very exciting trip to the supermarket in my 'wheels' and it's made me wonder what they would say to me at the london eye if I was in my wheelchair with my gorrillapod and 40D attached and I stopped to take a few shots on 'their' land? Surely my 'wheels' take up just as much room as a tripod, and plenty of people walk into my 'wheels' when they are daydreaming...so, would the disabled lady using her wheelchair as a tripod be asked to move or to not take photos? Might be worth trying this sometime just to see what happens!

SOrry to hear of your hassles Talj and Ecce. Par for the course these days - expect it as standard and not as the exception.

The reason they gave me at London City Hall was that commercial photographers use tripods, not health and safety - which is frankly even more absurd.

I think we should have an ongoing side challenge - you have to shoot the security guard or policeman that has stopped you. No law against it...but might get a little spicy :)

Yes we hould have a challenge who can get the most tripod shots around London ha ha!

I thought of doing a shoot, me at the side of the street with just a camera (no tripod), whilst a friend walks into Trafalgar Square or up to the London Eye, and sets up a big camera on a big tripod.... whilst dressed as Osama Bin Laden.

I'd obviously capture the kerfuffle that ensued... whaddya think?

So a monopod is okay?

A tripod is not okay?

What about a Biped?? Don't those two legs get in the way of feral kids??

I'm gonna build me a Quadpod!! Let them work that one out!! :))

They'll go stiff and repeat 'system error' over and over.

yea but dont shoot from the tripod, shoot the tripod as if it were the main focus... that would prob screw some of them up being you are not shooting with a tripod but shooting at said tripod :P

Now that is a very cool idea. Think wherever I go from now on I am going to try and get a shot of my tripod infront of *whatever* landmark I may pass! :o)

Not my recent experience in the Eye unfortunately - I was allowed my camera in the capsule, but the monopod had to stay with security. Apparently it took up too much space...

Thats a new one Alex! Now, I don't know how big you are as a person but am pretty sure there would have been larger people than you on the eye! The good ones keep on coming ;)

You joke but I was cautioned by the armed terrorist police for wearing a Star Wars Stormtrooper costume and carrying a toy gun. Their view - that a terrorist could dress up as a stormtrooper with a real gun. If it wasn't true it would be funny.

My new approach is to wear pink corduroy jeans, wear a blue jumper over my shoulders and over a yellow shirt, not shower for 2 weeks and carry a 'man bag' - i.e. look like Jacques le Touriste. I might look like a dickhead but I guarantee no more hassles, even with a 100-400 with 2x extender and sun hood on ;) **

** note: guarantee is valid only until I hit 'post' ;)

Nick, I suspect you mean something different from what I'm thinking of when I see the word "jumper," but I bet you'd look cute with this jumper draped over your shoulders.

And Talj: you should bolt your tripod to your wheelchair, then have Andi sit on top of it and hold his tripod in one hand without a camera while taking a picture with his free hand.

In fact, I'd pay money to see that street act. ;)

English = Jumper
American English = Sweater.

Geez, Natalya - must you cause such a commotion? I mean c'mon, you know you and Andi are seriously dangerous to society when traveling in a pack like you do.... :-)

Definitely try again with the chair and the gorilla pod. And take pictures. We'll all pitch in to cough up the bail money, promise!

C.mon guy's 'fess up . . Andi was pulling his Ninja moves on the guy again wasn't he ?? and doing the classic bad lip synching from his years of watching Enter the Dragon in his misspent youth.

That's what the problem was :- )

eta Who can tell me what part of levyj413's delightful photo constitutes a 'jumper' ? Is she a parachutist relaxing between jumps, or am I totally confused (again) ?

That garment, in North America, is called a jumper. I would be interested to know why the differences in meaning between there and here- where did the name come from for each in the first place?

(end of hijack)

I wore those while carrying my gorillapod nunchucks and I still got harassed by the man.

And I always thought a "jumper" was a Skyscraper suicide victim.

In England won as it is, it would be a sun dress, and a similar style but worn over a jumper sweater or t-shirt would be called a pinafore, or pinafore dress. Small girls wear pinafores as part of their school uniform.

Yep, "sun dress" is also used here.

England and the U.S.: two countries separated by a common language.

Oh, Jedusi: it *is* a delightful pic, but it's not mine. It's from some clothing store.

Yeah, you're right, sundress. As he describes a pinafore is a good jumper description, with a sweater or blouse under it.

Back on topic... So does that mean that a 3-legged person can't stand around there before 8pm??

And thousands of years of culture :P

Finally got wifi back again in my dingy little squat here in Delft. Going to go out shooting today....I bet no-one stops me here... in fact, I bet they actively stop me, stick a joint in my mouth and point me in the direction of a brothel, edam factory or clog shop :)

Yep, at least in Stratosphere Tower in Las Vegas. I had to deposit mine at the bell desk.
