I kind of expected this to hang in better than it is, but I'm still VERY happy with this 11th hour entry......literally 11th hour!!!

Oh, and four of my comments on my FS were from Judi, Jutilda, karmat, and Ivory; all of whom I admire greatly and am totally in awe of them liking my image.

Life is GOOD!!! LOL!!!

Hey Suckers, there's an interesting July side challenge - one that may teach a bit about perspective, angle, lighting, approach. That sort of thing. See here.

I feel like a wimp with only one photo currently in a challenge. LOL

Thank god with your FS score. I knew it had to go up. I'm still thinking that it may squeek past the 6. I changed my mind about my FS (several times) and you and bmartuch have already commented on it. Pretty cool!

I just got a validation request for my Rural shot.

It amused and delighted me to see this!

I guess that means I'm finally getting it, huh?

Processed the crap out of it??????

ROTFLMAO!!!!!!!

Hardly, as it's Basic and I'm not exactly a PS guru/expert.

Oh no, it's definitely legal......that's why I'm amused.

It's also a half point below the others I have that I did "Process the crap out of". LOL!!!

You're actually quite good with post processing tools!

By the way, my FS is holding, but my Urban Landscape has dropped a lot in a day! Hope everyone else is faring well.

I don't know what it is you want.......

But you can have it!.......8>)

Seriously, I spend more time being frustrated by what I *can't* do in CS2 than being happy with what I can.

I guess it's a combination of perfectionism and ignorance, but most of the time I feel so horribly inept, and that's only exacerbated by the amazing stuff I see here every day.

I do have fun, though......8>)

(deep breath: RANT - you have been warned...)

I am soooo frickin fed up with computers I could frickin scream. I hate this crap PC I bought for Internet use, cause it threatens to crash every 2nd day, and though I love my ol' orange clamshell G3 it is limited. However I did just spend $50 on an external hard drive for the G3 which bumps it up to 120GB.

That means soon (I hope) I can dump out PS CS, which is what I have, and put in a PS that has RAW conversion...cause my Nikon d40 did NOT come with the RAW conversion disk like it was meant to, it had a so-called bonus disk instead, so I am STILL shooting in jpeg. Anytime I try to download a so-called 'free' RAW conversion chunk of software off the net, guess what, it doesn't work.

So before I do something rash, like hurl my fricking computer out the window, can someone tell me is PS CS2 has built-in RAW conversion? Or do I have to bog my poor li'l computer down even more with CS3?

*rant over cause I'm out of breath now*

comes with. calm down. it'll all be fine. there there...

Have I mentioned lately that I love Team Suck? (Lovely response, Christian, and a perfectly wonderful rant, Susan! Y'all are delightful.)
07/03/2008 03:50:29 PM · #1067
Susan - have you considered Photoshop Essentails - it has a RAW converter and would save you a good bit of money. Might be worth at least considering. Christian, is the D40 covered by the CS2 converter? The Canon 40D isn't supported - hence the reason whu I splashed out for LightRoom.
07/03/2008 04:30:00 PM · #1068
Yes. apparently Adobe Raw 3.7 works with CS2, and it does cover the D40.

However even with Adobe PS CS, you can use the latest Adobe RAW standalone with DNG converter, and convert the raw D40 files into a dng file, which can then be opened in CS. Obviously that is a pain in the butt though.

I think before I did that I would simply go to futureshop and spend the $79 on a copy of PS Elements 6, which will use the most current version of Camera Raw, and also does almost, I would say 95% of what PS CS3 will do for you.

So if I buy PS Essentials and/or PS Elements 6 I don't need CS2 or CS3? You guys sure?

Yep. :)

If I remember correctly you are in the boonies with dial up, but if you are not you can go here and download the free trial and check it out for yourself. Of course the trial combines PS Elements with Premier elements which you really do not need. (you just need PS Elements 6)

Some days I seriously think I should just pack it in and give up (yes, it's been a REALLY rough few days in the Kashi household).

4 comments, with the consensus being that the shot sucks.

Sadly - they are all correct.

Ok will get access to a high=speed computer and give it a try...otherwise my arm would get way too tired from turing the handcrank so fast :-) will let you know how it goes!

And hey Ernie & Christian...does Essentials and/or Elements have built-in noise fixers? Noise is a ginormous problem in my pix even if just shooting at say ISO 200.

Maybe as I use the Nikon more, the noise will be less of an issue? I haven't really seen any noise in these shots

and the Mama Osprey was definitely shot at aroung 800 ISO.

Susan, I just downloaded Picasa off the 'Web at work 'cause I was tired of not being able to edit RAW shots of the used tractors I shoot for our website.

It downloaded fairly quickly on our broadband (I believe it's 13MB) and it works just spiffy.

I haven't played with it a lot, but for free it's a GREAT price.

It's a Google download and I am pleased even though I haven't a clue how to really use it.....I have edited about a dozen shots and it seems to work great.

I have *ZERO* familiarity with anything other than CS2, so I started at the bottom of the curve to learn.

Noise is a big issue with Nikon.

You will have to learn to tread that thin, hairy line between too much noise and blowing out your pics exposure-wise.

Any Nikon owner who says differently is lying......8>)

It will teach you.......the flip side is that I also feel that my Nikon takes absolutely spectacular images as far as razor sharp clarity if it's done right.

Then you feel *REALLY* good about it!......8>)
