I agree. There's just some fun quirkiness about this one that makes it stand out from the others.

Third that - it's the connection between the strolling pigeon and strolling humans that does it for me; urban wildlife is all about the animals adapting to such a human-controlled environment. When in Rome...

Walkies it is - it's a fun and quirky shot. I do appreciate the input, folks - thanks! While I'm thinking of it, I think I shall go stick it in the contest. The rest of you need to do the same. Though don't stick my shot in - kindly stick in one of your own. :-)

Here's my two choices for that same contest.

The safe one:

And the one only appreciated by those with the same sense of humor that I have:

Any suggestions?

I like the mascot one, another quirky take on what is "urban wildlife", but the toning doesn't seem right for it, at least to my eyes. Not to say going b&w vs. color is wrong for this, maybe it works in straight-up b&w, but the sepia-ish toning isn't doing it for me for some reason.

What title would you go for?

Well I used sepia for the nostalgic baseball feeling. Plus the mascot is bright purple and it looks horrible in color. And in black and white... it was just not grabbing me. That one is called "OUT" hehe

What to do... what to do...

I have a couple pictures here that might fit the topic:
Not really urban, though it was taken in downtown Chicago
No swimming or wading!

Rob, definitely the no swimming. :-) Hit it with a touch of levels or brightness to perk it up just a bit.

I thought it was a cardboard cutout threatening to drown as soon as the red sticky-tape comes off.

Nice humourous image. Have a feeling it could look better in B&W if you get a good conversion on it.

Karen, my apologies ... I decided to post without warning you in advance. I won't do it again.
A mini Team Suck GTG in NJ at the Sculpture Garden!
They had this gutted television set in the middle of a bamboo forest. But of course, we had to pose.

What a fun picture! I've enjoyed seeing these so far. Looks like you guys had a great time.

I'm still upset I couldn't make it!

That Trusted Reviews contest can be a bit hard to decipher. The first page tells about the contest; the second page explains how you enter, which is basically via email with an attachment. Let's see how many suckers we can get entered over there!

Michelle, I think if you want to win that grand prize (camera), you won't want to go with quirky. That website goes for standard good photography. The squirrel would definitely please them, or anyone for that matter.

Slightly delayed (as I'm still slightly sick) free study results are up in our results thread. Congrats to figaro and Melethia for personal top 5's, and again to Melethia for the top TS score (and 8th overall)!

Go Deb! Top 10 in a Free Study would be my dream result!
05/08/2008 03:04:31 AM · #396
Well done Deb with this result in the Free Study, with a great score. I finally scored above a 6 for my entry in "Free Study" as I have been bombing the past 6 months.

Sara, you're WAY more consistent in Free Study - that's an accomplishment in itself! Congrats on 11th in the current standings, by the way. Very nice representation for Team Suck!

And thanks for the 'grats, folks. I do mean it when I say I'm not a landscape photographer - sometimes it just pays to be in the right place at the right time. Can't go wrong with that little lake, I tell ya. It really is quite gorgeous. I missed getting a rainbow there one morning, though I doubt it would have photographed well. But every morning I'd go stand on the side of the lake and just enjoy the view. Marvelous.

Thanks deb - I am loving entering the Free Studies this year, but I'm not sure I can keep the current run up.
On another photographic note, at the weekend I submitted 4 photos to Alamy, and have just logged on to find all four passed the Quality Control! Tomorrow evening I shall have to do all the key-wording, and select some more photos to upload - wonder if I will get a sale...

I have a question. I was looking through my portfolio and found that this picture has over 10,000 views. The picture scored very poorly. That's 10 times more than any other image I have.

How could this possibly happen? Is there something wrong with the algorithm? Just curious.
