I'm in Maryland right now. We did DC, yet we didn't see it all, will go back tomorrow. I'm very interested in historic sites. Gettysburg is awesome. I need help finding other historic area's around Gettysburg. Any one know of other places to visit up here. I'll be in Williamsburg later this week. Looking for couple more places were I'm at.....Thanks for any suggestions.

We enjoyed Mount Vernon......ok, that's not near Gettysburg, but since you said you were going back to DC, it's not far from there.

Harpur's Ferry is a beautiful little town at the junction of two rivers.
Antietam is accessible but not as impressive as Gettysburg.
You could also take a trip into Baltimore and visit the USS Constellation...there are other historic boats there. As well as Fort McHenry.

Oh, and I enthusiastically second Mt. Vernon. Great little restaurant there.

If you head south on US-15 into Virginia and take a left at US-29, you'll come to another heart of Civil War country, Manassas Battlefield Park. More history but probably not as much to photograph as up in Gettysburg. Or, if you turn right off US-15 onto US-50, you'll practically travel back in time through perhaps the best remaining example of Civil War-era countryside. There are lots of awesome stone homes on rolling estates, old buildings, beautiful vistas, etc.

Thanks.....Ok, today we are going to drive down to Harpers Ferry and than up to Antietam. Tomorrow back to DC. My daughter has softball games Saturday & Sunday. (My daughter goes to Mt. ST.Marys). Head into Baltimore late Sunday to beat the traffic. Will spend Monday in James Town. Heading home on Tuesday. Thanks again for the help. If you see something within our travels we must see, please let me know.....I'm in Heaven up here. First time traveling out East.......Thanks...Joe

Harper Ferry is a cool little town. Well worth the visit. Antietam Battlefield much smaller than Gettysburg, but very cool. The Burnside bridge was awesome. I'm getting a lot of snap shots. I would say the best time to visit the area is in the fall when the leaves are changing color. Most all the trees other than the cherry blossoms are bare right now. It's been a great vacation .....Thanks for the tips.
