I went to more hassle for the Body Parts challenge than for any challenge before and I've not even got an entry to show for it :-(

I won't go into details, but after 3 hours of editing, with much swearing and cursing of the computer, I admitted to myself that I'd screwed up the editing, and to start from scratch would take as much time as I'd already spent, and decided not to enter it.

But having bought a filter especially for this shot (and ending up buying 2 - but that's another story) my determined streak has kicked back in. Having spent all this time (and a bit of money), and having come up with what I think is my best idea for a shot since I came to DPC, I'm not going to have nothing to show for it, so I've decided this is going to be my free study entry.

My question is this - is there anyone who's got more portrait editing experience than me (i.e. any portrait editing experience ;-) ) who's willing to look at the shots I took and give me a few pointers? They'd have to agree not to vote on the final shot to make it all above board.

Thanks in advance.

Check out Vincent Versace's book, Welcome to Oz, A Cinematic Approach to Digital Still Photography with Photoshop. Although it's a rather anal approach to digital photography, he's brilliant in that he's documented his process, which is very, very clever. The first chapter would be of the most interest if you're just doing portraits.

I own this and have read it. Chapter one is a great treatment on portrait editing. It's a fair bit of editing but the results are terrific. Further it will change how you think of images and it will then transform the things you emphasize when you edit and how you edit to emphasize them.
