And gr8photos, did you notice what my average vote was? It is not a 3, 4, or 5. I just want to know why they would vote a 3. There has to be a good reason. Maybe I am wrong, but I just needed to RANT!
Thank you.

Ranting can be good for the soul.

Uh, sonifo, you poor thing. I'd much rather comment on any photo, than clean up after the kids, and I'm sure you do, too. I'm sorry if you feel I was giving you a hard time, I didn't mean to. I actually meant to get just the response you gave me: You have a life, and it's more important than the challenge. Other people do, too. You will never get everyone to comment on all photos. Or everyone to attach the same meaning to the same vote. Such is life. Glad you got a good comment, and don't stop commenting just because you don't get constructive criticism with what you consider a low vote. I sure won't.

A five is an average well done photo by an experienced photographer. The sort of thing you might see in print or galleries.

This seems like an overly high standard. Most of the galleries I have visited only display expcetional photos that would win most amature competitions.

A seven is an exceptional photo. A ten could win any amature or professional contest in which it is entered.

I guess I was a little defensive. Sorry. :)

No worries, I feel the same way when I get a low vote! Btw, I liked your last photo, gave you a 7. Didn't leave a comment though, sorry. ;)

You are posting your work to a contest. I assume one who does that has the basics down. I judge accordingly. A five is an average well done photo by an experienced photographer. The sort of thing you might see in print or galleries. A seven is an exceptional photo. A ten could win any amature or professional contest in which it is entered. A three is a good photo that either I don''t like or has some technical problems. A two meets the challenge but has a lot of problems or a very large problem that destroys the photo. I save ones for those that really obviously do not meet the challenge or are garbage photos (I give out very few ones).

Sonifo says this to the comment above. :)

I will not compare mine and other peoples photos to a proffessionals photo. The reason, I don''t have all that equipment they have and probably will never have. And I am sure most others don''t either. Just thought you might like to know I am not judging yours to others outside this challenge. I judge only by what photo I like the best in the current challenge. I think it makes it more fair.

Thanks for the score gr8photo. I voted a 9 on yours last week. I loved it. Good job.

OK, so I''ve been here long enough to know that not all the comments that I''ll get by the end of the week are even close to being given. I also know that scores can do funny things as the week progresses. I also know that scores and comments don''t mean anything together and that a low score may or may not really mean a thing.

However, I thought other people might get a kick out of my current comments in relation to my score which has been steadily dropping all day. I will edit these down to a word or two which seems to farily sum up the comment so as not to give away which photo is mine. I have 9 comments so far...

1. "Favorite"
2. "Eye catching"
3. "Favorite"
4. "Awesome"
5. "Excellent"
6. "Would hang on wall"
7. "I love this"
8. "I really like this"
9. And the last one I don''t think I can edit appropriately, but it seems positive too.

Now, I may be reading these comments incorrectly, but overall I seem to be getting high praise (better, it feels to me, than any of my other entries to date). Yet, I expect to drop below 5 before too long (at least I do if the current trend continues). And if, after the voting is over, you think I''ve misrepresented you, I apologize in advance -- wasn''t my intent.

Anybody else want to share their contradictory information?

Why am I really writing this? Hoping to get the flip side of the crowd to comment. If you don''t like it, don''t worry about sparing people''s feelings -- tell them so they can get better. :-) A quick critical stab hurts a lot less in the long run than being bludgeoned to death with a lack of information.

Edit: And then, of course, as soon as I post, my score starts to go back up. *grin*

i think that neither comments nor scores alone tell the whole story. my semi-tongue in cheek analysis : )

good comments, low score:

potential reason a)people dont care for the picture but something about it makes them feel sorry enough for you to buoy you

potential reason b)the controversial picture - your picture appeals to some (vocal people) but not to others ( the quiet types )

good comments, high score: a) people love your picture and want to tell you so

b) people just found out you won the lottery

bad comments, high score (rare): a) some people feel sour grapes and are trying to take you down a peg

b) some people see you as having so much potential, they feel like you really need to hear it like it is to ''grow''

c) your shot with mass appeal really turns off the ''artistes''

bad comments, low score: a) you are on candid camera
b) the website is broken
c) your shot is ''too cool'' or ''ahead of its time''
d) your picture is poor.

:D

Nice magnetic. *grin*

Since I'm pretty sure I'm not in the controversial camp this week, I must really blow to need so much buoying. :-)

i think 'controversy' is just a matter of degree :)
