Wow, this seems like an interesting concept but I'm not exactly sure what counts as a "Homemade Landscapes". Anyone with a more concrete definition or example of this?

Thanks!

are we restricted to only "fake" landscapes?
Can I create a landscape shot, where the scene is arranged instead? But is made of real nature?
Will that disqualify my entry?

It's definitely not what the challenge is asking for...

I think that something like this is the primary objective of the challenge.

Some inspiration.

The second challenge I entered. Grass from the yard, backlit with a strobe with an orange gel.

I am not sure that this is a correct statement. If you are making a landscape it doesnt have to be out of bread and cheese etc.

The wording in the challenge description is, use your sklls: Tap into your arts and crafts skills and construct your own landscape scene to serve as the subject for your entry.

s if you are making a landscape it can be made out of nature if you wanted too. That is how I see it.

Made by you though, not by nature and just shot at a unique angle. Though how could the voters tell in that case anyway. (Looking at the latest trend in voting, you will probably get knocked down if it doesn't look like it was constructed by you.)

CP, you hit it on the head.

Who knows what will pass for homemade landscapes right now with the voters.

maybe we should all pitch in adn buy a HUGE bottle of valium for everyone to have!!! (that was a joke)

I see your point and stand corrected. I can imagine "creating" a miniature landscape from natural objects that would meet the challenge, sure. The way I read the post was like, using an actual landscape but arranging the objects within it. If you catch my drift?

as long as that drift is homemade, then I get it!!! lol

I saw how low the submissions where for this challenge and thought I'd have a quick go to help avoid a record low. I now fully understand the low turnout.

After spending 20mins searching for suitable objects I came up with some pretty poor props. I then realised that my lenses where far from suited to this challenge resulting in some acrobatic positioning to get my angles right. Then I gave up. Now looking through the results I think I may have taken the worst photos of my life. So tonight I am devising a plan, tomorrow I collect my props and Tuesday I call in sick to work to make this happen. Who's with me, we can still save this challenge!

keep in mind too that a landscape doesn't have to be a traditional nature scene. There's...
Martian Landscapes
Urban Landscapes
Molecular Landscapes
Ancient Landscapes
Outer Space Landscapes
Under Sea landscapes
etc etc

Of course the voters tolerance of these themes may vary :(

Hey if anyone is still struggling for inspiration you should go look at carlwarner.com and go to the orange box(fotographics)and then the second page(still life landscapes) has a couple neat ideas. Have fun!
