Hello,

I am trying to create text with a picture in it by placing the text on a photo and then using the blending options Overlay to see the picture in my text. How then do I save this text without saving the rest of the background around it? Anybody know?

I think I know what you are asking. You want to show some text, but instead of having a solid fill, you want it filled with an image?

There a a gaizillion ways to do this, but this is the easiest, and it is non-destructive.
Try this.

Place your text layer below your image layer.
Then ALT+CLICK on the line between the two layers (you will see a funny cursor if done properly)
This will 'clip' the image inside of the text.

You can them move the image around within the text until you like it.

No, I think sparrows wants to do what you are describing (and knows how to), and THEN save ONLY the text and its fill, so it can then be dropped complete with fill into another image. It's not something I have ever tried, and i don't know how to do it offhand.

ETA: I just read yours more carefully, maybe what you are describing DOES create a savable composite of text+fill only?

Select the text with the magic wand. (The surface area of the text)

In a seperate file, Select a square with in your photo with the rectangular selection tool. Hit copy. Go back to the text and choose paste into in the edit menu.

I guess I did actually miss that part about saving as a singular object.

You can merge the two layers. If the text layer and the image layer are the only layers, you can select "Merge Layers" from the "Layer" menu.

I am pretty sure that CS does not support "Smart Objects", but for anyone reading this using CS2 or CS3, you can select the two layers and select "Convert To Smart Object". The text will act as a singular element, but you will still be able to edit it later.

EDIT You can also hide all of the layers except the text and image layers and do an "EDIT > COPY MERGED" and them paste it into your new image.
