Hi all,

I have been looking on ebay for ideas on future equipment purchases and keep coming across these "replacement battery for the EOS 20D) They are dirt cheap, are they worht having one or two just as backups, or are they possibly so poorly built that I would be unlucky enough and have it short the camera out? Anyone have experience with these batteries?

I imagine I should just stay with a canon replacement, but alway willing to save a buck if there is no real difference.

I stuck with Canon brands for a long time, but couldn't resist a deal on some off-brand and ordered them (from a reputable dealer). They work great. No problems.

That said... I have heard of some off-market batteries not working well at all. Do your homework.

Yup... I got some of these way back (same batteries fit my Canon Powershot pro1) when I got my 20D I just naturally charged and used them in that body. They worked well (charge wise) but about a year into it I had one seperate along the seams and another plastic peices just started falling off. They are cheaper becuase the build is no where near the quality of the Canon batteries.

If you're going to go off-brand, avoid eBay. Low quality batteries from unknown sources can seriously damage your camera. You can find several alternatives at B&H that will work fine and save you a few bucks. I bought a CTA battery for my Rebel 300D that still works great in my 40D– three cameras later!

i have also heard stories of these cheaper batteries from unknown sources burning houses down when being charged up!

I use mostly knock off batteries from //www.sterlingtek.com. No problems. In fact two Canon batteries (one came with the G3 and one with the 10D) have both crapped out. The knock offs are still going strong.

Thanks for the info everyone. I'll look at some alternatives, but make sure they are from reputable sources. My canon batteries of course will be rimary, but I just want something as a backup in case I need "just a little more time" while out shooting. :)

I gota second the sterlingtek... higher capacity then the OEM and I and lots of others have had zip issues with them. The Canon ones are a rip off and I doubt Canon makes them anyway.

I order four of the batteries from Sterlingtek for me and my wife. I'll give them a shot based on recommendations here, thanks all!
