I thought LeRoy was only banned for a week. As he deleted his entire
portfolio I assumed he'd abandoned his membership here. I hate to see
him go for such a silly thing. As for the images being stolen, it won't
happen if you don't put them on the internet. Protection from right-click
does nothing but ruin the user interface. My suggestion, at least for US
users is to register all your online images once a year with the Copyright
office. Then find a lawyer to pursue those sites within US Jurisdiction.
That, and not posting any images at all, are really the only options.
Darn, I'm still not good enough for anyone to steal my images. :(

I found literally dozens of DPC shots there, and I didn't even go through all the links.

They have divine permission:

I know that this will not solve the issue but I really wish that DPC would enable users to block "right clicking" on their images. I know that doesn´t stop anyone determined as they can still take screenshots but a whole heck of a lot of people do not know how to take screenshots so this would most definately stop a lot of it. I know I would restrict right clicking on my images if I had the choice.
I second Laruson that!

No please.... It solves nothing and I have a lot of stuff on my right click menu that destroys the browsing experience (like EXIF reader, colour pickers e.t.c.). Plus I use back/forward a bit from that menu, so I have to hover off an image to get it to work... it's just annoying. If you can just remove the save image as from the right click then fine but it ain't the way it works.

Disabling the right click, or removing save from it, does nothing to stop people from copying an image. Try it yourself -- all you have to do is open Photoshop or MS Word, or any of a number of applications, and drag the image from your browser into the other application. Simple as that.

Or better yet, provide massive great big watermarks across all images for non-members. I know this is harsh but these are harsh times...

Not saying that you CAN'T stop it but you can disable all that with scripts.

Thanks for the heads up, Billy. I requested they remove mine, and they did. I wouldn't have minded if they gave the photographer credit, but just posting others work without this seems classless.

I am just curious: What bugs people here so much about their image being displayed on another site?
- Is it that someone else appears to be taking credit for it?
- Is it that it diminishes your own portoflio or risks your credibility (i.e. "He/She claims that is their image but I saw it on several other sites", etc.)
- Is it, or does it bother you more if someone else is profiting from it?

I can see most of the things above, but certainly the last one. While Pixdaus claims they are not responsible and will remove images, etc. THEY and others like them, who encourage it are actually benefitting from these stolen images. Forget Escoba, I would be ranting at Pixdaus and/or trying to push enforcement legislation to shut down sites that encourage and profit from it. If that is a laughable concept or so unlikely to happen (like with spammers and hackers who I used to constantly spend time sending emails to abuse addresses and complaining and threatening, etc - the only dent I've made is in my head from banging it against the wall), I would just save myself the headaches and either NOT POST IMAGES to the internet, or not fret when they are stolen.

I am also more annoyed at solutions that punish and inconvenience the legitimate users (i.e. disable right-click, manually maintain a whitelist for anti-spam, block your emails because someone on your same IP block is a spammer, etc.)

One of my favorite movie quotes (extra points if you guess the title) - "Life is pain. Get used to it."

For sure.... a more interesting question is what about Google... They profit from a full copy of most books (they even show some pages in their book service) but they are using the full text for indexing. Same for google images... there is really no content apart from someone elses images. Same for search :-) Dunno what the answer is.... just sayin....

Yeah agree... The IP blocking for someone using my email domain name infuriates me no end.... some nameless IP blocks my entire domain cause some spammer got it to use as a sender ID and they don't tell anyone... nada. They don't even honour the notification to postmaster@domain now days. Like it's hard to Joe someone.... It should not be allowed but most people have no idea it happens and put it down to glitches or some other BS.

Although that is one of my favorite movies as well, you're wrong. This is the line you are thinking of: "Life is pain, Highness. Anyone who says differently is selling something."

My quote is from another excellent movie: The Long Kiss Goodnight

I asked him in a comment to put my name and copyright on mine. We'll see if he complies in a reasonable time.

Where are you sending the removal notices to?

Yes. You sometimes need to look at other peoples work to get the juices flowing.

zomg..i've just looked at Pixdaus - most of the photos I saw were stolen collections of images. It's the way of the world and it's how the txt generation of kids think (digital collecting and sharing). It's not going to change so we have to change how we handle it.

Now I'm starting to think that maybe WE the DPCers ought to be watermarking our images, or maybe even have DPC do it on submission. They don't have to be visible watermarks but definitely some kind of ownership tag in there.

I completely agree with that. I also think we should disable right mouse click and image tools.
