its dumb. Dont waste your money. Its also embarrassing. Big and bulky and stupid looking. Also screws up TTL..in my experience. I am dumber for having purchased one. A piece of tupperware could do the same at much less cost. And probably not even look as ridiculous. Hmmm...gary fong and tupperware, now there is an interesting parallel!

I use lightsphere on my 2nd flash & whaletail on my primary -- both Gary Fong. .... but what do I know? :D

Um, that's a rhetorical question, right? I shouldn't answer that should I?

I actually use a whatletail and the lightspere as a back up. I really like the feel of the whaletail better than the lightspere, however a little bit of experimenting goes a long way.

I use a Lightsphere and sometimes, as grigrigirl said, it does screw around with the TTL. It is fantastic for some situations and shite for others in my opinion. Definitely a trial and error thing.

Me, too. Plus I like the interesting looks I get from people when I have it on my flash :)

If you go to //www.gadgetinfinity.com you can get one for half the price of Fong's. They have lightspheres and whaletales....both with the velcro grip that can be used on different flashes.

I have used them both, they are the best whether you are bouncing or shooting direct. I have even used them as a quick studio, putting one on a flash key light and another on a flash fill light.

One other comment:

The lightsphere cloud or the whaletale will cut your light by about 2 f stops. You better have a DSLR to use it so you can use a higher ISO and have minimal noise.

Also if you want pictures as brilliant as Idnic's, you need to learn how to balance the flash with the available light.

I understand that you didn't have a good experience, but I have tried a few types of tupperware and none have worked. It is the dome lid on the thing that makes it work. I have the frosted one and the clear one and I have never had issues with them. And if people think they look stupid on my flash that is ok because they have never said anything to me yet about it and I don't mind if people laugh behind my back.

yah well...your not a girl that has to put up with crude jokes. Honestly, I just didnt like the results. I prefer my own sense of bouncing flash and the dome that comes with my sb800. Besides, when trying to capture the moment wihout the subjects awareness..that big white ball just SCREAMS the moment away.

But hey, if everyone wants to follow along the lines of typical standard blah blah, keep spending your money on gadgets, gizmos and workshops. Hey, I hear there is a camera bag that will make you a better photographer. You might want to look into that one too!

By all means...i'll even quote my favorite bits....

Quickly realizing that traditional camera bags were not only a ball and chain to her creativity but also a serious drain on her fashion sense...she went straight to the closet. Grabbing a favorite handbag (a Prada no less)

You can count on Shootsac to bring vibrant color and a sense of the unexpected to your images as well as the inside of your camera bag.

get it while you can!

I bought a lightsphere a long time ago and sold it pretty fast. It's really just a tupperware... and it can't even keep your food fresh.

I bought a LS2 Clear for a wedding I shot. Wasn't impressed with the results -- still got shadows even 10-15 feet from a wall. I know the clear is for more specific applications (like groups, which is why I went that route) but I like the results from my Stofen Omnibounce better than the LS, and it was only $12! I bet the Lumiquest 80/20 would be even better.

I like mine. :)

I really like mine and I do get the stupid remarks like "what is that for" "can I put beer in that"... towards the end of the night I tell everyone it is for tips... it is funny how quickly they don't ask anymore LOL. I use mine all the time tho.
