I have read other postings about Nikon lenses and teleconverters and still couldn't find my answer...
I own a Nikon ED AF nikkor 70-300mm
I was thinking of buying the nikon 1.4x tc but it says that it is only compatible with af-s or af-i lenses. Is there a teleconverter that is compatible with my lens or should I sell my lens and upgrade to the AFS VR nikon lens (70-300mm).
Thanks!

I would sell the lens and get the 70-200 2.8 vr. When you use a teleconverter you will lose at least one stop of light. So if youare using the 70-300 4.5-5.6 vr or not you will effectively be shooting at an f/stop of 5.6-6.3 or higher. And thats shooting wide open. If you can't afford the 70-200 and still want to get a converter you can pick up aftermarket ones but you lose quality and will lose some functions of the camera.

Teleconverters are only really effective with faster lenses. With the D70, the autofocus only really works at f/5.6 or larger. The 70-300 at 300mm is already f/5.6. If you add any 1.4x TC to that, your max aperture will go to f/8, and you won't be able to autofocus. You can focus manually, but at f/8, the view through the viewfinder will be so dark that it will be hard to focus by hand.

Thanks...I'll go back to the drawing board to see what I can spend my $600 on.
