Let's Party!!!

Feel free to check in with me when you're in town. I'm always good for a beer and sometimes I'm good for a coffee but I'm usually better for a beer. If I'm free or even if I'm busy I'll try to carve out some time.

I'd might suggest a more casual wardrobe when you pack for your trip but if you plan on staying in Brooklyn, what you're wearing in that picture will be fine. If you're staying in The Bronx, I would include the Bowie Knife (from the other picture) and perhaps a small handgun. You can never be overly armed in The Bronx...I always say.

Paramount Hotel-The rooms aren't that big but I believe they have good deals all year round.

Central Park
Greenwich Village (East and West)
Times Square for less than an hour. Too touristy and hardly NYC anymore. It's more like Vegas.

Hahahaha, oh yeah, I am going to buy you a beer!

I'd fly into JFK (usually cheapest). Take the train from there to the city, then hop on a subway up to mid-town. Stay as close to Central Park as possible, ideally just north of Times Square! You'll have great food, shopping, lots to do, and are only a subway ride away from the Village (also great food and shopping).

You may want to find the Alice in Wonderland sculpture in Central Park or visit some museums. You may want to wander the streets of SoHo and find the Strand Book Store! You may want to have dinner at Penang! You may want to go to Scruffy Duffy's in Hell's Kitchen for drinks! You may want to see a crazy off Broadway show! Head to a dark club for somber and sultry night out!

There's so much to do!

I visited the Metropolitan Museum of Art a few months back so it sprung to mind first.
They have a great egyptian exhibit. Checkout their schedule, some specific non egyptian exhibits close at 1pm. You can bring your camer with you (no video cameras though, and no tripods). The Planetarium over at the Museum of Natural History is a pretty sight though I'm not sure how the ticketing procedure works these days. Pitty the Intrepid Aircraft Carrier is away on maintenance check. Oh and if you're a gadget freak there's always the B&H Photo store. It's like Toy'R'Us ;) If you'll be spending most of your time downtown there's always J&R but from being as camera geeky as B&H.

Oh, there's always tons to do in NY. I live very close by, and go often, but I always find something new to do :)
I also vote for the Metropolitan. If this is your first time around here, that's definately a "can't miss" visit. Guggenheim is also really interesting, mostly for the architecture, depending on what the exhibit is. I've been to great ones, but my last time was dissapointing, since they had parts closed for maintenance, but still charged the same fee.
There is a very small museum called " Museum of the City of New York", which I found interesting, but the best part was across the street from it they had these nice gardens, which unfortunately I can't remember the name, but they were fantastic for photos :)
And Soho is great for walking, dining, and maybe for your beer with Pawdrix :)
If you're looking to go out dancing, try SOB's (Sounds of Brazil) - great place with live latin bands.
Feel free to PM me if you need any more info. :)

You will LOVE NYC.
I like to fly into LaGuardia - it's fun because it looks like you are going to land in the water!

I wish I was going to be there. Why don't you come to North Carolina instead? ha. Charlotte is SOOOOOO much better than NYC. ha.

If you've never been to NYC, go to Times Square - you HAVE to be a tourist for at least a little bit.

I can't wait to see some pics. ;)

Well B&H obviously :-)

Okay okay... TS for a bit anyway. MOMA... Brooklyn bridge... Nat Hist is good if you are into that stuff.... The zoo in central park is cool.... Rockefeller plaza is okay depending on time of year... Top od the rock or something like that has a deck worth a look from there.... Central Park obviously.... If you have some spare $, the liberty helicopters are a real tourist trap & fun [warning, I did that before 911, so not sure how bad that would be now]....

Make absolutely sure to take the subway down to canal street and shop til you drop for 10 or 12 blocks (including a block or two DRIPPING diamonds) ... :) Best prices (if not quality) in NYC.

Coney Island off season is great photographically - I got some lovely HDR images on the pier looking back. Loads of interesting people, shapes, structures, lighting. Oh, and you've gotta eat a Nathan's hotdog whilst you're there :)

Also, there's a million great shots on the subway if you're into candids.

I can attest to Pawdrix and Nikolai's friendliness, photography love and willingness to be your best new NYC friend for a day. Good memories with both those guys and will hit them up again when I return...

oh I have no idea where I am actually staying, I am going to have to scavenge through google maps. I know I am 3 blocks from Central Park and 1 mile from the met museum of art.

I bought a City Pass at a discount so i have to go to these places:

Empire State Building Observatory
Circle Line Sightseeing Cruises
American Museum of Natural History & Rose Center
Guggenheim Museum
The Museum of Modern Art
The Metropolitan Museum of Art and The Cloisters
CityPass Extras
Valid 9 Days

I highly recommend the Guggenheim.
I was there last summer, and LOVED IT.

Be careful taking pictures on the subway. I almost got arrested last time. I had to delete the images. Don't want to spark a debate about whether you can or can't - just be careful.

If you're going to have a beer - do it at McSorley's Old Ale House (Lower East Side) It dates back to the civil war and the inside of it is a history lesson.
