Thus far these are the most iconic. The bear with my face cracks me up, but not what I want graphically. The idea of karma Points is an interesting one. Keep 'em coming :-)

Not trying to bust your chops here Robert, but some of us have been doing something similar to this for a long time in the way of comments, and marking images as favorites Robert. It's much less of an elite club that way.

I thought this once, but after considering it more, I realized its a really good way to call attention to some of the talented photographers on the site that don't appear on the front page. It requires a combination of luck and talent to ribbon (both in large amounts). Some never have and never will.

It also builds the confidence of the photographers themselves. Many display their awards proudly on their home pages. I see only positives to this and when its done by someone who's contributed to the site for years it'll be an interesting thread to watch. Almost like a "blog" that we can compare our opinions to. If the award givers get a little free self promotion in return, I don't see a problem. Comments and favorites are great but more private. I look forward to the "Bear Awards"

EDIT 2: Bigger sizes at: //www.nickster.com/bear/

There's not really much to go on. My wild guess is something by Elvis Costello, but maybe that's not old enough... and I'm not much of a musician.

I agree. On entries where posthumous has left me a comment my scores are far less important to me. One of my main DPC goals is one a Posthumous Award.
Now I can add aiming for a Bear Award to the list :)

I can understand Brad's point if say I are other newbies started giving out digital awards. That wouldn't go over too well anyway and would prolly die with lack of interest. Not many people are going to say "woohoo! a Cynthiann award!!". LOL

But this is posthumous and bear_music for goodness sake. I would be very proud to have either one on my profile.

By the way, I vote for Sunnies' colors and claws and Leo's borders.

In some respects I agree with Brad but if they are commented on and awarded during the challenge then I don't see any problem with it.

I feel if it is awarded after the challenge then it can suffer from the potential of a perceived bias.

Brad, I have to agree with cynthian above, in that for special members I love the idea of these awards. The posthumous ribbon thread is one of my favorite things about DPC. If everyone started handing them out, it would be diluted, but adding Bear to the mix only adds to the fun.

BTW, if you were ever to change your mind I'm sure quite a few people would appreciate a "Brad award"!

ROFLMAO!!!!!! You just made my day... It's a good thing it's Spring Break and all we're doing is playing cornhole at work 'cause I've had to shut my office doors to dry my eyes and catch my breath. woohoo!!

Not a bad idea - I'd like to see the occasional "Brad's Candid Seal of Approval" for candids and street shots that otherwise might not be noticed. But yeah, we need to not get too carried away.... I don't think that'll happen. While there are others who've awarded a few here and there, the only consistent outside ribbons are the Posthumous Ribbons.

I think it's a fun idea to have these types of awards. It's a lot of extra work for the award-giver and no skin off the backs of everyone else.

I went with a REAL bear. :) (I'm sure these could be better done by somebody that knows their way around photoshop better. Let me know if anybody would like to try)

As in the ages-old children's taunt, "Poop on you!" I hope my bear-surrogates will be better socialized than that :-)
