I'll be in Copenhagen in early April on business and I'll have 1 afternoon/evening free to walk around and see the city. I'm aware of the normal tourist spots like the Little Mermaid, Nyhavn, Kastellet, and the Christiansborg and Amalienborg Palaces, and I plan to hit as many of those as I can.

Any other recommendations? How about good cafes or restaurants near these spots?

Thanks!

If you plan to hit as many of the places listed as you can in one afternoon and evening, you won't have much time to visit anywhere else. For really fun photography, Tivoli can't be beat, especially at night. Not sure you'll be there late enough in April... unfortunately, it doesn't open for the season until the 17th.

The only restaurant I'm familiar with in Copenhagen is Ida Davidsen's smørrebrød restaurant. I've been trying to eat there for years, because it's kind of famous for good sandwiches, but it's only open 10 a.m. - 4 p.m. and I've always missed it. If you eat there, let me know how it was! Smorebrod are tiny open-face sandwiches that are quite elaborate and yummy. You order quite a few at a time because they're small ... Denmark is known for these sandwiches.

There are things to photograph everywhere you turn around in that city, by the way ... so even if you don't have any plans, you will find lots and lots to take pictures of.

i forget what the name exactly is but you can't lose if you walk the "Walking Street", the artery lined with shops and restaurants that meanders through the city.

also, for a great view of the entire city, walk to the spiraling tower church (Vor Frelser Kirke) that is over on the side of town that Christiania is on, its def work a walk up for some great views in the evening.

Im so jealous, copenhagen is my fave city

If you can carve out a bit more time and take one of the tours, I had a blast one the castle one. Tour guide was an 80 year old who knew EVERYTHING about Danish history and made it fun.... Got to hear the stories behind the buildings. Take a picture of the Dragon Spire on the Treasury building too!!!! Then find out how old it is :)

I'll be there the first week--thanks for the other suggestions though!
