I know it's a little early, but no harm in opening up a chat!

I would like to consider the following places for our April get together:
LA Arboretum
Downtown LA (early on a Saturday, by the flower market)
Downtown LA at night (financial district by the hotels, overlooking the 110)
Getty Center
Griffith Park (zoo, trails, carousel, something nature-ful)
Carlsbad Flower Beds (only if early in April, for me at least - or in May)
Farmer's Markets
Gardens of the World
Descanso Gardens
Any other suggestions?

The dates I am able to head out in April are:
4/6
4/12
4/13
4/26
4/27

If you want to go on a date I can't, please post and get together! I won't be offended :) I can see you all again in May!

I think this is the best time of year to see some flowers in bloom, so I prefer an outdoor, morning get together for April. I don't even mind heading back to the Poppy Fields if we want to try it again! I think Carlsbad would be too far for me the weekend before or after the wedding (4/19), as I'll just be flying out or back in; but, I can go on April 6th if you all want to carpool down there!

Post some other locations and thoughts! :)

I can't say as to which dates are good at this point... but I'm definitely up for an outing in April as well.

additional suggestions:

Olvera street/Union Station
Chinatown
Huntington Library gardens
L.A. Arboretum

I am also interested in doing a day riding the metrorail and exploring different areas (Citywalk, Hollywood, downtown, etc), including phtographing some of the stations themselves. I think a day pas is $5

Sunday's are much better for me. However, Saturday night is good if we go and shoot what I've been wanting to shoot for a very long time--the dusk skyline of downtown L.A.

I love to shoot skyline shots...

.
.

There's a vantage point of downtown L.A. from the 5 freeway (on the east side) but I wouldn't want to go there alone. A DPC GTG would be a great opportunity for this, IMO.

I'm not so into flowers and gardens, but what about Chinatown, Griffith Park, downtown, and Santee Alley? Santee Alley has some cool architecture, funky shops, all types of characters, hustle-n-bustle, etc. It's in the fashion district downtown. Of course, there's always Venice Beach.

Not sure I can plan that far ahead, but the flower fields are AMAZING!

And the landmark to find them off Interstate 5:

Hmmm, that's def an option as well. Perhaps we can have two outings in April!

How does this sound:

Sunday, April 6th work for Downtown LA (less traffic on Sunday, and can get there before sunset to set up)

and

Saturday, April 26th for the Carlsbad Flower Fields

I think I can definitely work in an evening on the weekend, as opposed to mornings. I'm looking forward to it!

In addition, there is a Los Angles Flickr "meet-up" (analogous to a DPC GTG) on Saturday, April 5 at the Getty Center at 16:00...

"Meet at the base of the steps at the Arrival Plaza (see map) at 4:00 PM. We can take in the beautiful art, architecture and gardens, views of LA, and the sun setting over the Pacific. There is also an exhibition of the work of noted photographer André Kertész going on the day of the meetup (it’s running now through April 13th for those that can’t make the meetup). Admission is free. On site parking is $8.00 per vehicle. For those interested we can also have a post meetup dinner in the area. I’m open for suggestions as to a restaurant."

Have you guys gone to the Griffith Observatory since it re-opened last year? Sunset to dusk is really nice on a clear night. Now you can actually drive up there again instead of taking the shuttle bus.

Another one of my favorite places is the South Coast Botanic Garden. If you haven't been there, you should check it out. It's great for macro work and birds.

I can't make it on April 5th, but I may be going back to the AVPP in Lancaster on the 6th... we'll see.

I'm not sure about the Griffith Obs. I have been at sunset, but there wasn't too much to photograph (for more than an hour). I do love it there though!

I've never been to the South Coast Botanic Garden... that I'd be interested in for the following weekend! I'm also interested in hitting the Carlsbad Flower Fields too!

So, I'm thinking April 14th might be good for me to get together to go somewhere in the LA area. Let me know if anyone's up for it! :) Arie

I will probably be finishing my taxes then... then again, maybe I can swing something depending on the time and location. What did you have in mind?

Hi all,

I'm trying to get a Flickr "Meet-up" (synonymous to a DPC Get-Together [GTG]) to go to Griffith Observatory.

It would be cool to get the two groups to meet and interact. We could use more southern California DPC-ers. What do you all think? I'll come up with a date in the next week or so, with enough notice for all to attend.

I'm thinking we get there at around 5 pm to give us a couple of hours to shoot around the grounds, enjoy the inside of the facility (the museum), and to have a bit to eat at the new "Edge of the Universe" cafe (which is a decent place to eat, as far as observatories go).

I was there a couple of weeks ago on a DPC/Flickr reconassance mission. Here's what I came out of there with...

.

Arie, if you want to join forces with me, I'm sure we can organize a pretty good event. Whaddya say?

I'm actually thinking Saturday, April 19 at 5 p.m. I'll have a better idea in the next day or so.

Hmmm, April's not looking so great for me. You should all get together without me though!

I have a housewarming to go to on Saturday, a play on Sunday night, then I leave next Thurs for a wedding in FL, then will be in Palm Springs during the last weekend of April.

I would be free for some night photography on:
4/23
4/24
4/28

Let me know! :)

Yeah, I actually have to fly to Mexico City in a couple of weeks, for a month. Hopefully, I'll be coming back each weekend. Don't laugh, I've commuted further--I did the L.A. to Boston commute each week for 6 months a few years back.

At any rate, I'll be posting the date and time for the DPC GTG/Flickr Meet-up later this week (I hope).
