OK here is my dilema, I have searched for hours online for plans for a motorized double arm barn door mount for super long exposures so I can try my luck at some astrophotography.

I ran into a problem, I know nothing about stepper motors (still don't know anything about them except that they are small motors and I don't know how to make them go 1rpm rather than 2,000,000,000,000rpms (exaggeration of course).

I know nothing about circuits or how to alter them and thats mostly what I come across. And the only 1 rpm motor that I can even think of would be a clock second hand, but I know not of a second hand on a clock with that much muscle behind it (enough to lift a few small boards, a Canon EOS-350D, and a 70-300mm lens attached).

So what I am asking, is:

A) Can anyone know of a beefy little 1RPM motor that is easy to fabricate if I absolutly have to
and/or
B) Can you point me to a link that may help.. I have found tons but send me one that worked for you..
and/or
C) Is it worth going through all the trouble to make mechanical? should I just go manual?

Why do you need motorised barn doors .
Not read up much on astrophotography before and this is the first time I have seen motorised doors mentioned on DPC!

I mention barn door mounts in my astrophotography tutorial with a link or two. Here are a couple more links you might find helpful:

And here's your motor.

awesome! thanks. is that motor strong enough to lift the double arm mount? i see the shipping weight is 1 pound so it seems like it could go either way.

You'll find that motor is *plenty* strong enough. It's geared down, and the output torque is rated at 20 inch-ounces. If you don't have any binding in your threads, there will be no problem at all.
