I've had this idea for a while, but with all the side challenges going on, I've been hesitant to throw another suggestion in the mix. However, in our current Slice of Life, there have been a few delicious food shots. And GregoryB made mention of doing a cooking challenge... so it's in the air!

Here's my suggestion:

A month of food and cooking. We all eat, some of us cook (like me - I love it and also do it semi-professionally), so how about posting a PAD of food, food-related things, groceries, the cooking process, etc.
If you are a fast-foodie, let's see your french fries. If you are a gourmet-foodie, let's see your creations. If you are a weekend cook, that is fine, too. Whatever floats your boat, just so it's food/cooking related.

And here's the twist - how about also posting recipes (where appropriate) with the photo? Now if it's too much to do a PAD, you do what you can. I'm certainly not someone who is much for routine.

This would be a great way to get some cook-book shots. Maybe we can put something together by the end of the side challenge - but I'm getting ahead of myself.

Editing can be whatever you want. Just have fun and experiment.

Since March is almost here - I'm suggesting April for this idea.

Any takers?

This could coincide with The Illustrated Word suggested in the overlay thread.

Blend the recipe with the image. ;o)

I was thinking more in April. And cooking, food and recipes, though an art in their own right, are not so lyrical as the Illustrated Word might be suggesting. I was thinking more along the lines of cookbook illustrations - though not limited to that.

I love it, Alicia! I know I couldn't do every day (frankly I just don't cook something of my own recipe and that visually interesting every day, shame on me) but I'd like to participate!

I'm definitely in for this one for April. I cook on the weekends, so if its OK with the OP my plan would be to pick four or five recipes that I can make and shoot on the weekends, then post one pic a day during the week as kind of a step by step illustrated recipe of the week for each week of the month.

This is great!

Added you guys to the list. Also added a few more details. Dennis EstimatedEyes - your weekend project sounds great. Everyone should do what they are comfortable with.

I'll PM Barbara and Pawdrix.

I probably would not enter daily, but I would love to be involved as well.

something to consider I suppose is that making food to take photographs of it, usually isn't the same as making food to eat it.

Typically, to do one well, you have to do the other badly - undercook meat to keep it plump, paint food with oil etc.

Thanks for thinking of me guys. I don't know if I could do a PAD but a few shots here and there would be fun. If that's ok, I'm in.

This is kind of an out take from the Bread Challenge, from a series of shot's done for the Head Baker at Balthazar Bread. They might use a few shots for flyers and othe PR. Since I only microwave at home I may be limited to getting images whenever I shoot for someone. Occassionally I'm on a total roll where it never ends and hopefully I'll be able to keep up.

I might be interested in submitting some food shots in April, but it is almost certain to be on a pretty sporadic basis.

I think including the (non-secret) recipes is a great idea, and so is making a cookbook -- lends itself well to e-publishing in PDF, maybe with embedded links to full-resolution prints if someone wants one (or more) of the individual images.

I'm trying to learn to cook ... I'll be watching the thread and taking notes :)

here's a photo of my chicken piccata and no knead bread :)

I am so in.

Most of my postings will be done at weekends too :-)

Can't resist this either, count me in, but I will miss the last days of April (lots of fun, sun, food and photos, but probably no internet).

I could possibly do this in April!
Sign me up for it.

I need to get some good portfolio shots of food.

I would like to contribute, but everyday would be unlikely.

Added all up to here.

At the beginning of April, my mom is coming to Phoenix to visit. We'll probably going out a lot, and we are also driving to San Diego and want to hit some famous diners on that trip. I will be taking plenty of foodie shots along the way!

That's a beautiful bread shot, pawdrix.
