What about maybe adding current rank in the My Submissions box
on the homepage? That way you can get a more accurate feel for
the way the votes are going. Cuz if you are average a 4 for example
you may think that you are not doing so well. But in rank you
could be in top 30-40 percent. Atleast it doesn't seem as bad that way!

What about when you're happy with your 5.4237 until you see that you're in the 37th percentile?

I don't think it's a very good idea. Imagine seeing yourself in 4th place. For some that might be enough reason to start giving out 1's until they find the 3rd place image.

I agree with GeneralE. The whole point in the competition side is to see what place you are in when the voting is done...

It would take away the surprise element of it.

Example. My National Geographic entry had my score at over 7. Looking back over the older challenges I was hoping for a high placing, thus making it more exciting for me. Must have worn out my mouse clicking on the Update button...

Imagine me fnding out that my final score of 7.090 'only' got me 15th place... How would I have felt if I had known throughout the challenge that I didn't have a high ranking? Would I have been excited to see I wasn't in the to 5?

I really enjoyed that challenge, it's gotten me my highest score on a picture I really liked, so the 15th place was good enough because of all the other good shots before mine.

I think I prefer the suspense.

One thing I think I would like to see during voting is the breakdown of votes. Shouldn't be too hard since the logic is already there to display it after the competition. It would just be interesting to see how votes are breaking down as they come in. On the down side, it would probably lead to a surge in the "I just got a one, how dare they" complaints.

Simple math and an obsesive compulsive personality is all you need to do this. ;)

Which is why I suggested it - obsesive/compulsive laziness. :)
