I am sitting by the barn door with a tear in my eye! My beloved little Pentax K100D + accs is in a big dark box, in the back of a parcel van on its way to a new home.

I had to sell it, couldn't persuade the boss that it was quite happy sitting in the camera bag. I was told, it goes or the 30D goes!!

Bye bye, K100D :(

Awwww...... But just think - your beloved little Pentax K100D is going to make some other person very, very happy, and it won't be sitting in it's bag feeling left out anymore. So you did a good thing!

OK, Don - I read this: sorry, I was playing negative space nazi. and I thought you were playing a computer game of some kind. Took me a minute to figure it out.

If similies are spaghetti and metaphors are meatballs, does that mean it's time for dinner?

Will someone PLEASE talk me out of entering pet portrait?

I found my poems whilst checking through some CD-Rs. Thought I might share one with you all. Written in'95, it came about as a result of a TV programme revisiting some of the desert areas in the US where nuclear/weapon tests were done:

Dead Desert. An impression of the Military Sites used for Nuclear Tests

Whispering on the wind, the name,
Bushes bow before her in worship.
Carried on the wings of birds,
In the flowing horse's mane.
In the shattered deserts, war machines lie,
Desolate and broken, a legacy,
For our children to bear.
Toxic breezes dry the eye.
Ready to take the unwary,
The careless foot stirs the sand.
Many have passed, walked the land.
Hunter and farmer,
Warrior and squaw, buffalo and gazelle,
Child, woman and man.
The serpent slides, body contorted,
Like the trail etched in the earth.
Crows call the name, wheeling and diving,
Bloated corpses, rusting shells.
Pits and craters.
Mountain and plain, red water,
Barbed wire and warning signs,
Scream the name.
Top Secret. Dead, barren and waste.
Machines fly, carrying destruction,
Feet leave their passing impression,
On the threshold of the other world.
Beautiful and sinister,
Bare and cold, hot and vast.
Shifting sands that carry the virus,
Killing for thousands of years.
Fire and wind, erase the traces,
Of people and faces.
Serene.
Mistress of the lost and afraid,
Widow maker and lifegiver,
Gives and takes away.
Like a magnet, it draws the seeker,
Seduces the lover.
With gentle caress, it lures and promises,
Nothing, but the name,
The United States of Insanity.

OK Steve, 4 poets.

87% of people are Steve. Altogether too few are Frank and Earnest. Most people are Bob and nearly everyone is Bruce. 100% are confused.

Similes may or may not actually be spaghetti but they are said to be like spaghetti. Metaphors are metaphorically meatballs. The confection is speculative and the sauce semiotically studies semiology. Half an alliteration is better than no bread.

Deb, do not enter pet portrait. Not only will the creative product of your own consciousness be ridiculed, but heartless fools will also mock the scrawny little moggy beautiful soulmate that you have chosen as a model. You could end up sympathising with Leroy and that's as far as I'm prepared to speculate.

I have been saving my money for 6 months, plus I am getting a larger than expected tax refund.... so I am upgrading my camera. I am not sure yet which one I am upgrading to, but that is beside the point.

I have decided to donate my Canon 10D to a deserving but poor up and coming photographer. I have been thinking about it alot, but still have no idea about the best way to choose the appropriate person to give it to. Any ideas from Team Suck (you guys always seem so full of good ideas).

I was wondering how Barbara suddenly became Bob. Um, sorry, I'm a bit slow :p

I'm not sure if we have any suckers looking to move into the dSLR world, but that could be your first choice. And that's a really really nice thing to do, too! Looking forward to seeing what your new toy will be.

I am actually torn between the Canon 40D and the new Olympus E-3 (in which case I would also need to purchase lenses. The 10D is old enough that I could not sell it for enough to make much difference, but it might make all the difference to a new/less experienced photographer. It was my first dSLR and made a world of difference to my love to photography.

I think the 40D would be a good replacement. I have seen this baby in action and wish I had more pennies when I got the 30D! Another option would be the 450D, if you feel more comfortable with a smaller footprint.

What a wonderful thing you're doing! As a proud owner of a donated camera (love ya Deb!) I can attest that there's no better feeling than being the recipient of a much loved dslr! I'm sure there are some suckers dying to upgrade and unable to afford it.
