Im looking at purchasing a soft box. I would like to know what would be the effects using a grid soft box as to using a plain one?????.

Can somebody show me some examples.

Thanks

The grid helps control the light, keeping it from spilling to places where you don't want it to go.

I have a long/thin softbox that I use for my hair light. I have a grid on that softbox so that the light pretty much goes straight to the subject without spilling over to other places - especially towards my camera as I don't want light from the hairlight entering into my lens and causing flair.

All the rest of my softboxes, which are usually back to the side of, or behind the camera, don't have grids because I want the light from those softboxes to spread out, I don't need to control spillage on them.
