I came across this review over on photo.net tonight. This lens could be a player in the market. I like the fact that it's L glass and it has a range like it does.

That review is very interesting but doesn't have any samples to show. No matter what sort of technical innovation gets put into the lens, it could still end up as a big, expensive paperweight if the image quality is up to par.

Just being the pessimist here... and I won't be able to afford it anyway ;-)

cough, cough.... Estimated selling price $2,500.00

I will have to wait until I win the lottery. :/

Well it's not a review, just a revamp of the Canon Press release. It's not even a preview with 'lens in hand'.
I am personally more interested in the other lens, the new 75-300 IS DO lens.

I have Canon 50 mm f1.8 77$
Canon 200 mm f 2.8 640 $
Canon 100-300 mm f 4.5-5.6 USM 300 $
Sigma 105 mm F 2.8 Macro 420 $

And 18-55 mm which come with the camera (haven't use it much)

And guess what!? The cheapest one is far better lens than others and I use it the most !

LDO is low dispersion optics,maybe DO is part of that ?

DO stands for "diffractive optics". As opposed to refraction, which is the way a curved lens bends light, diffractive optics, as the name implies, rely on diffraction to bend light. Typically one element is the lens is diffractive, and it enables a smaller, lighter lens for a given focal length. There is one previous lens with DO, this is the 400mm f/4 DO IS.

I'd have to get a wheelchair if I were to carry this thing as a walk-around lens. I think it is, like somebody pointed out at photo.net, mainly for photojournalists and such who need all that range at once and don't have time to change lenses.

My plans of covering this range (35mm equiv. anyway) are 17-40 f/4L -> 50mm f/1.8 -> 70-200 f/4L. That's roughly 27-320mm on a 10D, for a little over $1000
