When I get my taxes back I want to get a new camera. I only can spend around $600.00. Any suggestions? And maybe if I can be a better photographer I can become a member.

I just bought this camera and lens, this portrait lens, and these macro extension tubes for a little over 700.00. Of course you could just buy the camera and lens kit for 453.00 and be on your way! I also bought these items at Amazon.com. They were cheaper there.

Swap that sequence... become a member and become a better photg :-)

You could pick up some older mid-range SLR's or new entry level SLR's for that $ but careful of the add-on affect of SLR's... more lenses... flashes... bit's and pieces. Don't get my wrong, I think an SLR is great but it's the start not the end. As for P&S... Check out the Canon G9.... it's got a lot of advanced options when you want to expand.

The canon G9 has gotten some great reviews, though I have not used one myself. I have a Canon S5 IS and it is a very flexible, feature rich camera. (I only got my Rebel XT a few days ago, so most of what is in my portfolio is from the S5) The main downside of the S5 is noise at high ISO, but otherwise it's a great camera and good prep for an SLR's functionality.

If you shop the sales, you can squeeze an SLR kit for what you have. I've seen an Olympus E-510 kit for $497 at Fry's recently. I got my Rebel with kit lens on a clearance for $327, but that was a rare deal, and I took a risk on a floor model.

From what I see of your challenge entries so far, you have the eye. Mostly high 5's. Good stuff coming from you.
