| that last cut (around the white building) was SICK! The only time I've seen props that close to the ground was in Black Hawk Down...and it was followed by a crash! |

This pilot needs to have to fill the little bottle for drug testing MUCH more often! Even in the 60s and 70s, I never took any drugs THAT good! ;)

Yeah ... right! In their dreams. Helicopters cannot actually fly ... They are just so ugly that the ground repels them ... The only thing insane about this pilot is his expert ability and knowledge of his machine.

if you want to see some crazy flying youtube patty wagstaff. my dad and i used to fly into airshows in michigan and i saw her perform, talk about awe inspiring.

| reminds me of some of the river runs i've seen bush pilots take up north. 100mph, 10 feet off the deck though a canyon of doom, finished off with a hammerhead maneuver... pretty crazy stuff. |

One of the first videos I ever watched on the net...... about 10 years ago. LOL. Just as amazing today as it was then.

I spent a couple of weeks doing geology from a helicopter up north. I sat up front with the pilot on the first day and pointed to a spot on my map and said I'd like to go there first. He looked at the map, then looked at me and said he couldn't read that kind of map, then pulled out his map. I ended up trying to follow where we were by landmarks and GPS, which worked out OK.
Taking me into some creek-beds, he 'whippersnipped' small tree branches with the propellar. One time he landed on my backpack coming in to pick me up, I was holding it. Sometimes he'd "toe-in" on the side of hills and hover where there was no place to land, then I'd have to gingerly step out so as not to tip the propeller into the hillside.
One day I made a comment about the tail rotor, and the pilot said it didn't matter if it stopped working because the fin would prevent us from spinning out of control as long as we were moving forward fast enough. Of course he decided he had to show me by turning the rotor off, sheesh. It fealt pretty odd. Then he said that we could even lose all of the power and he could still land it OK by angling the propellar as we fell to get it spinning fast, then re-angling it just before we hit to use the momentum of the spinning propellar and new angle to slow us down. Sorry for the poor explanation. I begged him not to demonstrate that one.
According to the pilot, as we were flying through a storm (oops), the helicopter is safer than a plane. He explained it by comparing the speed that a plane's wings cut through the air compared to a helicopters. He knew all the numbers. Lightning was still a bad thing.
Anyway, that video is hair-raising!

Helicopters don't actually fly, they just beat the air into submission.

That is an insane or amazing or both pilot!
The Longbow helicopter (AH-64D) can do almost any manuver a fighter jet can, just slower. Loops, rolls, hammerheads, split s... Fully loaded with fuel, ammo, rockets and missles.
