When I switch the camera to "On" the flash pops up automatically, flashes three times, and the little light in the front of the camera stays on! It won't let me do anything - none of the buttons work!! Anyone ever had this happen?!

Edit: The lens cap is off, it's in auto mode...it doesn't happen when I try to take a photo (it won't let me take a photo!)...it does that immediately after I turn the camera on! I've never had anything like this happen before...

Shutter button stuck?

If not that, it sounds serious.

or the button that pops up the flash may be stuck?

Check all the buttons and make sure nothing is jammed down.

This could also happen if you have it on Manual Focus and on Auto.....if it can't focus or is too dark it will pop up and flash trying to focus...and you will not be able to take a shot...but this normally happens when you attempt to press the shutter, not by just cutting the camera on.

Is the lens cap on or off when you turn the camera on?

Good idea. After all that, the camera may think it's Flash Wednesday.

Enough with the glowing reviews already ... this thread should get back on track (problems with Canon camera) or be switched off.

Great. I had my camera freak out at Myrtle Beach and took out the bat and she worked just fine...
