We got 13 inches of snow today and a day off school, the second in a week. That's pretty much unheard of in the Madison school district.. we get maybe one snow day every 7 years.
So anyway, I've always wanted to try snowflake shots and today seemed the perfect day to do it.
  
100mm macro with a 1.4x teleconverter over a black cutting board. I'd still like to get closer though; with the equipment we have now (see  strangeghost's page) plus the teleconverter, is there any way to get closer macros? |

Extension tubes, or a magnifying glass (homemade close up lens) on the front of the macro lens might get where you want to go before the snow melts. Sometimes reversing the lens on the camera body works too. You know enough about astro photography to know the details about getting good exposure manually.

| We have some drifts in our driveway that are over 3 feet tall. One of our cars is almost completely hidden. I will be taking some photos in the morning. Not sure of an actual total because I cleared our driveway 3 times during the storm but going by how much I cleared each time I would estimate 15-16 inches. Just finished clearing a path to the street hit some spots that were drifted well above knee level. I am really growing tired of this crud. |

I could use a snow day. :D
Not do I want to be driving in the streets here if it snowed because people already drive like they are on crack over here. I can just imagine with ice on the roads.

| I tried some shots this evening; however, it seems one would need to use fresh snow rather than snow that's been lying on the ground in a heap all day (it snowed a bit last night, but most of the snow that's still around is from Sunday.) ;-Þ |

This is what my driveway looked like this morning. Most of the snow on top of the car was blown from the roof of the house and garage, Good news is I do not have to use my roof rake, bad news is the snowblower is trapped in the garage and my wife needs to use the car in just a few hours.

| You guys have my sympathies, it was 60+ and sunny here in NC. I used to live in Pa. and don't miss the cold and snow at all. It does make for pretty pictures though! |
