This was one of my first ideas, and actually the photograph I liked best of those that I took for the Conflict challenge... but I decided not to submit it, as I'm sure most people wouldn't agree with my taste, wouldn't "get" the conflict in it, or both. Nonetheless, I'm curious what others think of it as a photo, and I would like opinions.

"Moral Conflict"

I think its a great photo, the lighting is perfect. It fits the challenge and its very meaningful. I don't know why you didn't submit it! I would have gave it a 9 or even a 10.

I don't know how someone wouldn't get the "conflict" in it. Even if they didn't get it, they're not gonna lose sleep over it and neither will you, so why not submit it?

Good luck with your next ones :)

I think it's a great photo(not just because I'm a man). I think it jumps out at you(not the best choose of words) but I do agree we you about the "most people wouldn't get it" atleast without the title. As far as taste, I really don't see a problem. But may I suggest a bigger cross, this one seems to get alittle lost(once again,b ad choose of words). I think a bigger cross would make a more powerful statement.

Fits very well conveys the conflict to me, but yes you are right several people here wont "get it"

I like the concept very much and also agree that many people, without an explanatory title, may not get it. Probably because there's nothing in the photo to express conflict. A cross and red sexy bustier by themselves I don't think say conflict. But if you could have included a facial gesture or expression that indicated conflict it may have come over better for the challenge. Because the model's breasts are so dominant in the picture, I think one important thing is to replace the cross in the photo with one that is larger and more eye catching to help balance it out more. I also think a crop showing more of the bustier would have been good too. Just my opinion...hope it helps.

I think you messed the red up. There's way too many blue specs in it.
02/27/2004 03:42:32 AM · #7
Conflict is a struggle - a contest - a battle - a disagreement
to contradict each other arguing and fighting over opposing beliefs
A struggle between two different forces The weather on sky and earth land and sea are coflicts that are against each other eroding away land
Truth and untruth belief and lies -black and white -war and peace I dont think some people know the meaning of conflict

I think your image is very good and I see the conflict between lusting after her body and being true to your faith is definate conflict and a good take on the challenge I would give it 8 or 9
I dont see any blue specks on the red I think maybe just a tad sharper focus on the cross may improve this but thats really being picky
Good luck in the challenge
Sally

Certainly would have met the challenge in my book and technically the shot is strong as well. I would have scored it a 7 or 8. You are correct in saying that some would not understand it; sometimes you have to be too bloody literal here to get a decent score.

I think it's a good image too and, IMO, it fits the challenge topic. I would have preferred a sharper focus though. I'd have scored it 8.

God bless all you intelligent and open minded people and hope that my entry is visible to more of your kin - it's been a looong time it got an 8 :(

After seeing all the shots... this would definately be in my top 5! Very creative and technically executed!

This was one of those instances where I had two shots I liked and chose what I figured would be the better accepted one (read: the one I liked a bit less) and probably chose wrong. The same thing happened with the last challenge, though I knew the one I submitted was pretty bland... but I made the mistake of asking outside opinions and actually listening - oh well, no big deal. It's fun sharing and getting pointers. :)

I'm surprised at so much positive feedback for this picture, and really I appreciate the comments and tips! Thanks. I couldn't find a bigger cross.... that one is really quite large at 3" length... had I had a regular model sized person to put it on for me and not had to use myself, the size would probably have been a bit more balanced. That's also the reason for the softer focus.. vanity, y'know! I wonder if a longer chain would have been better? I didn't even think of trying that... maybe I'll try reshooting it sometime. :)

Again, thanks!

Julia,

Personally, I disagree with the idea of a longer chain. The cross would get lost in the cleavage and you would also then have it conflicting (if you please) with the shadow and color of the bustier. I think having it higher on the breast is much more effective. I'm also not sure I agree with the idea of a larger cross either. The subtlety that you have captured here is much more interesting. It doesn't shout the message...it suggests it. I also like the fact that it is a little off-kilter, sort of falling into the cleavage rather than lying perfectly straight on the body. To me, this symbolizes the theme of the shot even more. I would have given this shot a 9 or 10 just as it is.

Thanks, Pidd. I tried to balance the cross with the bustier (vertically) as a kind of framing contrast, which I was afraid took the cross out of the viewer's focus too much. I'm glad it works the way it is for some people. :)

Nice photo, I guess we'd have to assume that she's single, not married, and her neglige isn't intended for her husband ;-) with that in mind, I'd have given you high marks.

There's a cross?!!? Couln't see the forest for the trees...LOL!
Just kidding. ;-)

I like it very much. I find the message is very clear, even without the title. I think the colours are good and technically it's a very strong image. I guess my only thing is the crop. Not sure I like the off-centerness of it. Then again, as I look at it again, it probably would not have worked any better centered. I like it as it is. I would have given it a 7-8.

I think it's a good photo. I would probably have given it a 7. I understand the intended conflict. I hope you do well with your other choice!

I really like that shot and would have voted it high.

Reminds me of one a while back by Sleekr for the Irony challenge:

Mocabela- I'm afraid you blew it. Despite the individual speculation, it should be pretty obvious from all these posts that just about everybody would have accepted this as Conflict. That was a great concept and brilliantly executed. You might very well have taken first with this one. ;-)

Have to admit, I am another who could instantly see the conflict theme in your image. Before reading any other replies, I looked at your shot and this is what it conveyed to me:

A girl who has been bought up within the Christian faith and doesn't believe it herself, lives a different lifestyle, but finds it hard to deal with the conflict between her upbringing and her own views

or

A girl who has faith but isn't sure about it and is torn between her attraction to the tenets of her faith and her attraction to a wilder, more exciting lifestyle.

I have to reiterate that I think the image is great and meets the challenge. Even without a title the conflict would be abundantly apparent ;) Jokes aside, I think this would have been no less than top 5. But you know, there are a few, as in all challenges, who would have tried to knock it down in voting, just because that's what they do best.

I'm not one to actually "like" booby pictures, thats a matter of personal taste. But setting aside personal view and taste, I would have given a high score for this one. Does this picture convey "conflict" Most certainley YES! Is it a good photo..YES!

Thanks for all the great comments! I haven't had time to respond earlier as I'm not at home - attending a family funeral out of state - but I appreciate them all very much. I'm kicking myself a bit for not entering this picture, as the one I entered will likely finish in the 5 range like my others. Oh well! Won't get it next time since I don't have time, but hopefully I will eventually enter a high scorer :)
