Hi
I am about to buy a new compact flash card for my Canon 40D. I will probably buy Sandisk but which model/speed should I pic? I take all kinds for pictures - also sports/action.

Whats is the difference between Sandisk Extreme III and VI or maybe even the Ducati Line?

Best regards,
Thomas Jessen

They have faster writing speeds apparently. I have the Extreme 3 4gb Sandisk and it's great. You can trust them as far as I can see.

Having said that, I have a 2gb Sandisk card that's always come up trumps. I think the differences between Extreme 3 and 4 are marginal.

I am not sure if they ship to denmark, but play.com was very cheap for sandisk cards. I got a 4gb extreme III for my 40D and can't fault it. I think the 'extreme' dictates the cards are resilient to the extremes of weather, depending on your needs it might be worth digging around a bit to see what the fine details are.

Whatever you do try not to buy on the high street - I needed an extra CF card whilst out shooting Birds and in my desperation went into Dixons (high street electricals, like Circuit City only worse). I paid WELL over the odds for a 2GB card that would have probably cost me half price had I bought it online...

I bought a 2gb SanDisk Extreme III (got two others...a 4gb main and 2gb backup, now a 2nd 2gb backup)

N

EDIT: The ducati line stuff seems style over function imho and not worth the extra, unless you really have the money and top end kit and find camera buffering issues/bursting a problem.

Seconded. I just bought my fiance a 350D for christmas and got her a sandisk extreme3 2GB card off Amazon for £14. That same card in Jessops? A staggering £59.99

I personally have both a 1GB Ultra2 and a 4GB Extreme3 (£20?) from Amazon.

I think that goes for pretty much all purchases in the UK!

Almost everything I buy (other than clothes cos I like to try them on for size first) comes from the internet!

Anyone with speed experiences? Is the difference on Extreme III and IV really not worth it or?

save your money and go for the cheaper version! always used III series and never had any problems. Can't imagine ever having the need for anything faster!

Looking at your portfolio, doesn't look like your into sports anyway, so why bother spending the extra dough?!

Hi

Thanks for all the answers. I have thousands of martial arts pictures - that's a kind of sports.

Have a nice weekend,
Thomas

I have it on good authority that the sandisk extreme3 2GB card can go through the washer AND the dryer without losing a single image file...don't ask.

My "need for speed" for the vast majority of what I do (weddings), isn't so much the camera speed ... but the speed at which I can download the images to the computer.

Check out this thread where I show the time it takes to download a SanDisk IV card using a Firewire card reader. A combo that can't be beat!
