Can't wait. Unfortunately, and also predictably, the Jewish community is in an uproar. It was the Jews who sacrificed Christ, there's no doubt, and because of this for centuries most Jews have refused to acknowledge his existence which would mean taking blame. But what I'd like to point out is that any one of us probably would've done the same thing. THere's no way of knowing, if I were there at the same time, perhaps I would've been throwing stones from the crowd as well, they were expecting a King and instead got a carpenter. I would like to think I wouldn't have been so blind, but the human mind is weak. Not only that, but Christ vowed to forever bless the Jews even after crucifixion and for the rest of their existence. Really, there's nothing to be ashamed of.

My worry is that people will take this film as a literal interpretation of history. There are several significant things in the film that are almost certainly NOT accurate. Most significant being who was actually responsible for crucifying Jesus. It was Pilate's decision. He was not a weak leader, he was a brutal tyrant. Only Rome had the power to crucify, and Pilate was Rome.

Pilate gave Christ over to the Jews to do as they saw fit. Even if he was manipulating them, the fact remains the Jews [and general populous] were CRYING for Christ's head on a platter for a long time. It all went down the way God intended it from the beginning of time.

Sorry to be the party pooper, but this thread doesn't belong here. It's no less controversial than the MAD post, and belongs in RANT with it.

Just a quote that sums up religion and faith in case anyone is interested:

The Religious man goes to church and thinks about fishing. The spiritual man goes fishing and thinks about god.

Robsmith.....

There is a study reference called a "Harmony" which essentially takes all 4 Gospels and writes them sequentially. These are typically titled a "Harmony of the Four Gospels". Quite enlightening on the historical sequence of events. Another reference for accuracy is Josephus, a 1st century historian, whom is regarded as the "go to" source for this time period.

FYI in case you wish to research the "stories".

And the existence of Christ isn't desputed by historians, period, but whether or not He was the Son of God.

Lets not forget that Jesus CHOSE to die on the cross for our sins.
The reaction from the crowd, mostly Jews and Romans in that part of the world, was atypical of any crowd. Look at the riots we have after football/hockey games. It seems to me that a wave of hate/stupidity will wash over a crowd of people, making them do extreme things that they normally wouldn't do. In a crowd, there fears of being different diminish, allowing them to go along with the majority. Then it just snowballs!
My 2cents!

well, if you know all about it so well already there really is no point in going to see the movie, is it................

I guess in one sense, the Jews did kill Jesus, but don't forget that Jesus was a Jew as well. The Romans were the ones who physically did the killing.

BUT, deeper than that, is that for Christians, we are all guilty of the nails.

To blame the Jews, and hate them, for the crucifixion, goes against the very thing that Jesus was here for.

I do want to see it, but just hearing about the last twelve hours on the cross breaks my heart. I'm not sure I can stand seeing it, because I feel that He did that for me.

i'm definitely going to see it tonight and on saturday i believe

also i would have to say the the whole uproar about the film being anti-semitic really shows that people who don't like the film probably just don't understand it. it makes no difference whether it was the jews or the romans.

the whole point of the movie is to convey to Christians and nonChristians alike what one Man was willing to endure to redeem the sins of every person in the world.

Not going to see it, never. Not interested at all.

Scholars Find Faults in 'Passion'

Who Killed Jesus?

I just don't think this film should be looked at as accurately depicting history. You are free to believe that the Gospel of Mel is the way it was. I don't.
