You don't have to leave that early, Leah. :-) We'll probably be in that area for a good 2 hours, so just come whenever you like. Of course, it would be great if you (or whoever that other bluemoon person is) showed up at 9:00, but I just don't want you to be rushed. Good luck with the parking!

I'm glad this plan is underway!
I'm not sure where i'm staying on saturday night, so i guess we could just meet @9am at the gardens. Currently i'm at the Marriott (Market and 4th) because my boss is paying for my stay, but i'll have to relocate starting friday night to a more affordable place. Any suggestions for cheap motels?

In this town, "cheap" is relative. Anyhow, here are a few ideas. Friends have, in years past stayed at the Stanyan Park Hotel. It's located at the edge of the Haight Ashbury and Golden Gate Park.

Then, over the other end of town, there are a bunch of inexpensive hotel/motels on Lombard St. Now, Lombard St. is one of the main thoroughfares to the golden Gate bridge, so traffic can be heavy. If you go that route, you might want to head for the back of the property if you have a choice of rooms. Still, it's a very good area, and plenty of places to eat. Fairly near the wharf, and the Bay. Here are some links - and good luck!

Hey, Aleks, if you don't mind sleeping in my daughters' bedroom, you're welcome to stay at my apartment. (The girls are with their mom then, so you wouldn't be kicking them out.) The two caveats are that I'm old and my apartment is not terribly large or neat. Wait, was that three caveats? And all of that's in addition to the fact that it's a girl room, so I can't promise that there won't be posters of Justin Timberlake in there. Now that I've finished demonstrating why I would be a terrible real estate agent, just let me know if you're interested. Of course, I would hate for all of Alice's research to go to waste, so it won't hurt my feelings if you'd prefer to stay at a hotel. ;-)

...are likely to ride into the city in the morning and meet up with people at the Japan Town gardens.

What I would like to include in the days activities are these:

1."Sin, Fire & Gold ~ The Barbary Coast" //www.kqed.org/w/sinfiregold/
a self guided walk through the Historic Area of downtown San Francisco and includes all of the most important & famious landmarks in the city.

2. A visit to Haight & Ashbury: //www.sfgate.com/traveler/guide/sf/neighborhoods/haight.shtml

3. And my favorite places to take out of town visitors: //www.exploratorium.edu/visit/wave_organ.html

Crossing over to the North side of the bridge would also provide potentially good photo ops...including SF Alices Tree!

Great, I'm looking forward to seeing you guys! You do know that we're meeting at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park and not in Japan Town, right? I'd hate for you guys to be waiting all the way across town!

Wow, you mean we are going to have a motorcycle escort all day long. What fantastic fun!
And I'm finally going to meet the legendary rasai.
Oh, yes. That tree. Whoa, that goes back a ways.
I still visit that tree, but more often, like here, take its picture.

See ya Saturday!

should I bring my reflector/diffuser? it's pretty big. I'm not gonna bring the stand for it but a couple of people can hold it up while someone else takes a pic...?

...although on second thought I think it's gonna be pretty cloudy so that might be pointless :P

oh, are we going to meet outside the maingate at 9am or will you all be inside already? I'm not sure where we're going after that but I'll just follow you guys wherever you go, just don't jump off the GG bridge or anything, lol.

Probably meet up at the main gate and go in together at around 9:00am. that way, we can find each other. Once you get inside the Tea Garden, there are too many places to hide!
:-))

I hope to join you at the Japanese Tea Garden in Golden Gate Park a little later today (9:00 ish)! It seems as though Steve will not be able to make it this time! If for some reason I can't find you, I hope that you'll be able to find your way here by looking at the "Photographer's Comments" included in details of the first photo!

Yes, it was a fun day. Nice diffused light in the morning, and good
sun in the afternoon. I'll also get some images up, probably tomorrow.

Nice pictures, Alice! Just to make Leah jealous, Labuda and I went to the Body Art Expo today and took tons of pictures of people getting tattoos, then we went to Pier 39 and saw the Bush Man. It was a very good day. We have a few thousand pictures between us from this weekend, but we'll slowly start adding some photos to the thread soon. Stay tuned...

Well, After the next GTG I won't be in such a hurry to share the pictures as I've blown a few opportunities that I may have considered entering!
