I attended a seminar that had these the other night Digital Calibration Target

I really liked the real time example he gave but I have questions, he was a canon shooter and in setting a custom WB he could zoom in and grab just the Gray section for setting his WB and then the 3 panel gave him a GREAT histogram.

In looking at using this for my Nikon I can find how to use a Gray Card (full frame exposure) BUT can't figure out how to use it for full three panel usage.

Any help would be appreciated!

You probably need to put it on spot meter mode.

You just need to fill your view finder or at least your sensor area up with the neutral color. It doesn't even have to be in focus and your camera can still set white balance. I have been using the Digital Calibration Target for a number of years... in fact, mine only has white and black on one side and white on the other. He didn't come out with the tri-color one until later and I've just not bought another one.

I like to take a picture of it and since I shoot in raw, as long as I'm shooting in the same lighting, I set my white balance from it when I convert from raw to 16 bit tiff. If my lighting changes, I just shoot a picture with the DCT or a WhitBal in the picture and keep going.
