Just found this on the BBC site - you'll need RealPlayer (which is why I haven't heard it yet), but these are exerpts from a radio interview he gave on 29 July 1976 - including one that sounds fascinating - 'What makes a creative photograph'

hear it from here

If you like listening to photography radio, the Fotoguys Radio show is quite good too. Maybe not in the same class as the BBC interviewing Ansel but some good stuff in the archives.

I was able to listen to them and I appreciate the heads up. I am a huge Ansel Adams fan and I always enjoy listening to him.

For those that are interested in him and his work there is a great video called "Ansel Adams: Photographer" that covers many, if not all, of the same topics and many more.

I've got that video, too. It's pretty good!

The main thing I noticed was that he hated contests like this one quite passionately :)

Also in that BBC archive I found a Salvador Dali interview - far, far more entertaining - even just for how he pronounces Surrealist!

I think he grew very tired of this type of photography (shooting for praise) over a period of time rather than it being an inherent hatred.

He makes valid points though, but I feel his skill had more than a little to do with it (hey he probably got low marks in his club competitions;)
