or what you think is wrong about this.

Thanks

I think I would prefer seeing the front-end, rather than the back-end of the birds. It feels like I missed an opportunity, and thus uninspired (I'll hire a counselor in the morning). Perhaps the busy background is a bit distracting, as well. Nice try, though. Happy shooting.

I also think that the top of the wing of the top bird is also pretty key in this. It feels like it was an accident that it was cut off. A person needs their fingers in a photo, a bird needs its wings

I don't see anything wrong with it. I guess it depends on what you were going for. I have to agree there is a lot going on in the background. The only thing that I don't like about is that the top birds wings are cut off, but maybe someone else likes that?

The "easy" shot ... is the one of the animals fleeing from your presence. The hard and/or lucky shot ... is the one where you meet them head on, or where they haven't even realized you are there.

When you look at people, you want to see their eyes, not their backs. The same is true with animals. We connect with them when we see their eyes.

I like that you caught the birds in flight. I think it's much more fascinating than seeing a winged animal sitting on a perch. It also takes more skill to get them while they are in motion. So kudos on that front. All I'm suggesting is try to get them coming towards you next time.

Yes, I think the edit works tremendously at helping to separate the birds from the confusion of the background. Nice work.

That was my first impression too... and at DPC, during voting, first impressions may be all you get.

I agree with dwterry that the main issue with this is the bird flying away in the shot. I love shooting birds of prey in the wild and I feel the pain when they decide to fly away instead of towards you. The shot lacks an impact b/c of this, imo, and there is so much more dynamic to a photo when you have subject move towards the camera, especially wildlife. The focus is dead on and it's nice and sharp but I would remove the top bird as it is a distraction to the photo with is wings being cropped from the frame. I usually keep the photos of them flying away but deep in side all I do when I see the shot is cringe and think to myself "why wasn't I on the otherside dammit" lol.

One of the things that I felt was problematic with a lot of the time lapse shots (not just yours) is that they seemed to just be experiments with the technology, and beyond that, there wasn't really a point to the shot. In this case, it's a bird flying through the frame. It's a nice, sharp, properly exposed bird, and I do understand how hard it is to get those things right, but there's nothing in the picture to get my attention. Compare it to MAK's wonderful blue ribbon winner, where the action has a beginning, middle, and end, and really tells a story.
