Okay, Pats are on an incrdible run. I bow from the knees to them! Time for a "fall from grace." First round defeat ... is my prediction.

not to be picky but they cant go out in the first round since they get to skip that round

Give me a break ... first round they play!

They get a bye this week. The games this week are for the wildcard spots.

I am biased, but I think my Jaguars have a pretty good shot. I'm hoping for a shot at New England, but we have to get by Pittsburgh first.

I would be much more impressed with the Pats had the rest of their division won more than 12 games total this season. But truth is, The Pats had a soft schedule.

It'd be great if American Football was a real sport, and not a pretend one.

The Jags should have no problem with the Steelers...

I'm not a Patriots homer, but I can't let this one go. :-)

The Patriots played in a baaaad division this year, as you noted. Not their fault, but it is what it is, right?

Despite the fact that they got to play 3 bad teams twice, what about the other 10 games of their schedule? The Patriots played 7 teams with a winning record this year (Chargers, Browns, Cowboys, Redskins, Colts, Steelers, and Giants). How many did they win?

Let's compare a few other teams: how many teams with a winning record did they play, and of those games, how many did they lose?

....................teams w/winning record.........losses against those teams
Steelers......................6.........................................3
Colts...........................7..........................................3
Cowboys...................6..........................................2
Packers.....................4..........................................1

and for comparison
Patriots......................7.........................................0

When you stack up the stats that way, who had the tougher season??

It's all in how you cut the stats. For my money (and those who know me know that I'm a Bears fan to the core), what the Patriots did this season was freaking amazing. Absolutely stunning. Going 10-0 against that non-division schedule is very tough. Obviously they won't earn the moniker "best team ever" unless they win the superbowl, but you have to admit, they did not go 16-0 against a marshmellow schedule.

lol, I am still not impressed. However I will give you credit for finding the time to look up the stats. Then again, You have extra time now that the Bears season is over. lol

I am going to be posting a message in the GTG thread. You may be interested.

No softer than any other team in the playoffs.

Who do you think had a "hard" schedule? Aside from the teams that got brutalized by the Pats.

As a Packer fan who would love to see Brett win another one.. I still have to predict the Pats will win it. Brady is golden in high pressure situations. The final game recovery from 12 points down to rescue the perfect season should be proof enough of that.

This disrespecting-the-Patriots bit makes for good fun, but it smacks of wishful thinking. Strangeghost hits the nail on the head when he points out their schedule was NOT all that easy this year, even if their division did roll over and play dead. After all, one of the reasons every team in their division had a sub-par (or worse) season is that they all had to play the Patriots twice, so they all had at least 2 losses right off the bat there.

And let's not forget the several times this season when the Patriots were on the ropes and found a way to come back and win. They showed a lot of character.

Anyone who bets against the Patriots in the post season is bucking the odds, let's put it that way :-)

one of the things I think about is, All season long the Pats where ahead looking back. Never had a worry, Always in first place with nothing to lose. Now they do not have that 6-0 10- 0 16-0 to fall back on. The presure has been turned up to high. One loss sends you home, I think they will fall to the presure before the big dance.

My dream -- pats go to the Superbowl, undefeated.

Meet the Packers.

Packers hand them their first loss and pick up a SB victory.

Pats have been amazing and it would be cool to see them go to and win the Super bowl, but they have been playing a little too loose on defense for me of late, and that usually means a quick exit from the playoffs.

I would love that too, but unfortunately Dallas could stand in the Packer's way.. and that thought just cranks me. I can't stand the Cowboys.

Even *I* could get behind that scenario. I'd love to see Pats v Packers in the SB. Either outcome would be a joy, assuming it was Favre at the helm for the win. What a story that would be :-) But, as has been pointed out, they have to get past Dallas first, and much as I hate to say it, that won't be easy.

As for the grass-sitter, don't you worry your head about our defense; we have 2 weeks of rest and planning to get it back in gear. Actually, the real issue is what adjustments we make in that offensive front to stop these guys who have figured out how to pressure Brady; that's where the battle will be won or lost.

The Cowboys have not been looking so great the past few weeks. And now I read that T.O. is uncertain for the playoffs. That ankle injury he got is still nagging him. Hard to believe that a broken foot didn't stop him from making it to the Superbowl in Philly but a sprained ankle could keep him out of a playoff game. I sort of hope that Washington takes out the Seahawks even though I would love to watch Holmgren turn purple and blow a vien at Lambeau. I think the Skins have the best chance to go into Dallas and pull a rabbit out of their ass. Maybe the Giants too but that would be a big wish.

I still like the Packers chances here. Looks better now than it did the day after they lost the home field advantage to the Cowboys.

Going to be a very interesting month ahead.

Seattle at home by two/three TD's IF thier DEFENSE shows up...

Well, one cannot deny the Redskins are hot. They beat some decent teams at the end and Collins has filled in most excellently, but I have to give the edge to Seattle.

1) Collins is a backup and has not likely faced a crowd like Seattle. Has he even taken a snap in a playoff game before?
2) Hasselbeck has more playoff experience than any of the NFC QBs that isn't 40 years old.
3) The Hawks almost always play well at home.

On the other hand I agree the Hawks have been schizophrenic and have often played down to their opponent's level. The running game has been pretty well a bust this year, and I blame the OL more than either Morris or Alexander (although Shaun should take some of that blame). Still, in the last few games against poor opponents it has shown some life.

I say it's fairly close, but the Hawks prevail. 31-21
