It's getting closer and I'm really getting Jazzed about it.

I've got 3 Nikon bodies - does that help to tip the scales back?

I have two Canon bodies, so I think it may work out just fine balance wise heehee

I got 2 Nikon bodies and Canon P&S. So 1.5 Nikon points for me.

Since you guys are getting close to your GTG... I'll mention this again :)

I'm planning on making a trip to this area this summer, and I'd greatly appreciate it if any of you who have a GPS unit could mark some of the interesting features you visit/photograph. I'd really enjoy having a good list of waypoints so we can plan where to visit throughout this region.

Many thanks in advance to anyone who can help me out that way!

I'm off first thing in the morning! A stop in Boise and one in Vegas and then on to the NP's of Utah starting with Zion. See you all in Torrey.

Alan - I'm bringing my hiking GPS loaded with the NP Topos for the region. No promises but I'll try to mark the spots I go to.

Woweeeee

It's begun.!! At least for jb.

Feel free to search the web and other sources for some unusual photo spots. I have some in mind, but new posibilities are always welcome.

There will be 10 of us. Five shooters and 5 followers/maybe shooters. That's a great number and will allow us alot of flixibility. I am soooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo excited!

See you there.

Any tips on what clothes to pack? As I understand it will be everything from hot to cold, right?

Yep - cold to hot. Layers are good. Torrey (Capitol Reef) will range from mid 30's to mid 60's. We'll be shooting before dawn at least one day, so have clothes for the 30's. Light weight gloves (simple knit gloves work) are nice while you wait for the sun.

Moab will be about 5 - 10 degrees warmer.

It's looking like it will be rather clear. I'm hoping for a few clouds at the right times to make the dawn and dusk shots wonderful.

Bring sunscreen or hats. It's easy to burn in this area.

We'll have a full moon, so plan on some evening shoots to capture that.

Yes!!! Macro without bugs or flowers Challenge! I love it when the challenges held during a GTG can be done at the GTG.

In Vegas but wanting to be in Zion shooting (side note - #29 was pretty hot on the roulette talbe last night). Oh well, tommorrow we will be. BTW - the drive from Twin Falls to Vegas on the back highways of Nevada is one lonely stretch of road! Given the right time of day and light they could yield some great landscapes though.

See you all soon.

edit: Becky - I brought my Sigma 105 Macro so I hear you.

I will have to borrow macro from someone. Even if I had one, my back would break if I add another lens to my bag.

I'm bringing my Micro 105mm. I also rented a Fisheye 16mm. Should be fun.

Hi, everyone.

Three are on their way, the other two of us will join in the morning.

We've had our bad weather and will not be clearing and having warmer temps. I am still hoping to see broken scattered clouds. They make for great shots.

I expect to arrive in the early afternoon. I hope to pick up Nick between 9 - 10 am, and then it's about a 4 hour drive to Torrey. There's a great burger joint in Torrey that has homemade greasy, yummy lunch food. I bet we'll be stopping there.

I'll check at the office for other arrivals when we arrive. I'd like to go out shooting around 3:30 - 4:00. Let me know if you're coming in after that, so that you can be included when you arrive.

See you soon.

I hope you all have a great time shooting and stay safe, don't get too close to some of the edges down there; the bottom is a LONG way down! I really wish I could be down there with you guys!

We just landed at SLC. We are going to get our bags and to the hotel. Does anyone from SLC want to get together today?

We arrived Zion today around 3 and spent until 8 PM shooting. Great weather here (although windy) but minimal clouds to spice up the wide shots. Great sunset with the moon almost full over the cliffs. Sorry, no shots to post yet as I have not had time to download them. I'm going to get up first light and shoot some sunrise shots and then head out to Torrey.

Hope to see some of you at the burger joint!

We're picking up Nick, and will leave within the hour.

Becky

See you there.

We're all here and are taking pictures like crazy. No time to even download them.

Tomorrow, Moab!

You can always count on Nikolai to upload tons of pictures before anybody else. I'm envious that I couldn't make it this year.

Have fun guys and be careful climbing without me ;)

What we found in our hotel room? A Scorpion!

So we took him with us to Goblin Valley to take photos of him

Becky's mobile office is her secret to excelent GTG planning.
