Count me in. It's not even beating my personal best. (Which was all I was hoping for.)

The list in the first post should be up to date. Since it's become quite a large list, I'll probably subdivide it into groups of 6 for analysis post-challenge. Everyone is more than welcome to comment on anyone's entry, of course, but I'd ask that you provide in-depth remarks on the entries for those in your subgroup. Sound fair?

Yanko has been yanked from the list. Anyone else have scores over 6 now? :-)

But, but, it was just because someone gave me a 9 or something. Damn troll!

I will probably pull myself from the list as well. I've received good feedback in comments, namely "I don't see the point", "Oblique and lacking interest", "good technicals". This tells me that it falls in the OAMCLI category - Only a mother could love it. I succeeded in presenting a technically competent shot, just not one that appeals to anyone but me. Fair enough!

I will still participate in commenting on shots from others on the list, though.

P.S. To those who left those comments, in case you recognize them, I very much appreciate them! Exactly the kind of feedback that explains why my score is where it is, so thanks!!

As of right now, I'm "suffering" the same fate as yanko (not that I'm complaining). However, I wouldn't count on it holding. Either way, I'd love to be involved in commenting.

ya, ok, i'm in. i really like my shot, and it's up to 4.9. peasants....

ok I am in! I love my shot 1 but the voters don't! 4.61

I'm going to space out the list in the first post into subgroups. Kindly make an effort to address all the shots in your subgroup, but comment on as many after that as you'd like. I may or may not be traveling when the challenge ends, but I will get around to commenting when I get to a computer! I'd suggest that when you post your picture for comments, post what it is you liked about it and include the technical info if you didn't when you submitted the entry.

PLEASE LET THE VOTING STOP NOW! I'VE LOST MORE THAN A DECIMAL POINT IN MY AVERAGE AND IT'S STEADILY SINKING. WHAT HAVE I DONE??? AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAH!
01/07/2008 10:00:57 PM · #64
Fear not, my dear, you get one and only one decimal point. More than one decimal point is just silly! :D

I really thought the green on the right of the image made a good natural border to it...

It's still my favorite shot of the month. I just really like it. And "I don't like the subject" or "it does nothing for me" are very valid reactions. As I said, it's one only a mother could love, I guess. An ugly baby picture. :-)

My second lowest score ever and one of my favorite shots.

I feel this one tells a story and shows a touching moment you don't catch very often.

I knew it would score low, but thought it was at least a mid 5. Final score, 4.7

I really liked my shot it was neither overprocessed (cropped and curves) or oversaturated and as for the background I did not have much control over that! the bird was a bit soft but it was hanging on it's nest over a river with a breeze blowing!

I do really love this photo. I'm actually really sad that nobody else likes it as much as me. This is actually my lowest scoring photo, I believe.

This is my adorable cousin Sarah. I took some family photos for them, and she was begging me to take her picture in front of the rocks. I liked the processing I did to make the sky look more ominous. I also really love the look on her face, and the breeze blowing her hair. I think she's precious.

Ahh well. Score shmore. At least I like it, right? :)

Roberto suggested on mine "more aggressive post processing". I really do kinda suck at post processing. I rarely if ever do any spot editing; I tend to curves, levels, and maybe convert to B&W. I like duotones. I don't do much with dodge or burn, I can't select anything or accurately mask anything. So to maybe learn a few new skills, I'm open to suggestions as to how to "aggresively" post process. I could make the dog purple... :-)

Casually, my workflow is very similar to yours! I'm not a photoshop guru, but I've noticed that duotone images with more contrast are higher rated than those with little contrast. Take for instance the recent duotones with blue ribbons! :-)

"I really love my shot." This is my favorite tree in the whole world, I pretty much drive by it every morning, and it was also.......

....the subject of my Object Isolation By Contrast entry, which also was not appreciated much.

And of course, I have the distinction of having been one of the comments to Deb stating,"Oblique and lacking interest by my tastes."

I thought there was a great sadness and elegance in the swan's strange pose - not sure many voters agreed! (And the Don said it made him hungry!?)
