Adobe is offering the Starter Edition for free.

It's not a trial but it has some limitations compared to the full version.

Well, I downloaded it last weekend and I am very impressed.
It is an extra-cool (and useful) piece of software and I am very oriented to buy the full version this weekend (it costs less than 40 pounds here in UK).

Just wondering what DPCers thing about it.
Is there anything better out there?

After trying this software I asked myself how could I manage my photo archives without a tool like that.

The only better options are things like extensis pro or canto cumulus which are really much more 'full on' professional database products and really in a very different market (and a lot more expensive)

The UK Practical Photography mag reviewed this and several other products and Photoshop Album was the winner in the sanely priced, non-commerical use category.

I'm using Photoshop Album 1.0 and I'm very happy with it. Are there any interesting new features that would be worth getting an upgrade?

Sorry Nicole, I don't know exactly because I didn't use the 1.0.

I read that US users can buy an upgrade license which in Europe is not available though.

I use 2.0 right now and it is very impressive.

the one feature that I like the most is that I can have different catalogs. So for instance I have a catalog for all my photos on dvd all the photos in my back up and all the photos waiting to be burned.

The tags are a help in locating photos as well( just dont wait tell you have 6000 photos to start taging them :) ).

The other option that is nice is that it will print sets for you. We recently shot all our figure skaters in my daughters club and with Photoshop Album you can select the photo and the prints you want (wallets 5x7, 4x6 ) and it lays them out on the sheet of paper for you.

All in all a great product.

I guess it depends what you use for.

It is a good cataloging program .. ie you need to explicitly add the directories. I think if you move the files you are in bad shape (not sure). The internal viewer is slow and not user friendly IMHO.

I still continue to use ACDSEE 5.0 ( 6.0 was too slow) as a browser, very fast browsing, very fast displaying, not as rich in cataloging but has the features.
