Hey,
Since everyone here is really knowledgeable I figured I'd try asking here before going to a separate forum and signing up, etc.
Anyway, I'm having issues viewing photos in firefox. It works fine on some websites, like DPC, IMDB, etc, but other random websites, like myspace, wunderground, etc, I can't view any photos. I either get the jpg symbol showing there should be a photo there, or text will continue like there's not even supposed to be a photo there. But actually, on all the sites where photos don't work, advertisements with photos still work.
I checked to see if I had the same problem in Safari, but everything works fine there. I don't use Safari though because for some reason it's really, really slow. Like I get a pinwheel for like fifteen seconds with every page a view.
I'm on powerbook G4 running 10.3.9 and the computer is just over 4 year old, though works perfectly with everything else. And this just started a few days ago. I figured it'd work itself out, but it hasn't, and it's really annoying. I did some research, and some suggestions to similar problems was to clear out the cookies and cache, but that didn't work. I deleted firefox and downloaded a new one (which also happened to be an upgrade) but still no dice.
Any help would be appreciated! Thanks! |

Mine does that too from time to time, but that's because I have Adblock running and sometimes it blocks photos thinking they are ads. If you have this, or any other ad blocking program, running it may be a place to start looking.
If you don't have adblock, I'd HIGHLY recommend it. I don't see ANY ads, on any webpage. And if for some reason one gets through, you can just add the ad's source to the block list and it'll block everything from that address no matter what site you're on.

Check your Nortons settings. It will do it at random even with sites like DPC.

I don't have adblocker, so that's not the issue.
Judi, I do have norton, so I turned it off and restarted, but still no photos.
I'm trying to figure out how to delete norton as well. I deleted the files from my applications, but it's still there on the top.
But I did turn it off and it didn't seem to do anything. Thanks though. |

| Well, I just downloaded Opera and everything works okay,and it's faster than Safari and IE, so I guess it'll work for now. But I like Firefox better. |

It is in the settings of norton in the adblocking..you need to into the advanced area and add the site then click on the window next to it and put the symbol / into the box and click on permit.

If you can, you might check to see if the images you can't see are linked or attachments. Also, if they are part of a flash gallery or one of the other flavors of display gimicks that so many web sites are going to. With some of these, if you don't have the the files needed to run/view the software, you won't be able to see or do anything. Just like if you don't have Java installed you can't do a lot of things on web sites, although it's not as bad any more.
Also, there are websites that are built by Microsoft products that are IE specific and some features of Firefox will not work on them. I've run into this with custom browser applications that were programmed with Microsoft programs only. If Mozilla wasn't so good about coming out with updates quicker than Microsoft for IE, Microsoft would have so much of Firefox blocked that we wouldn't be able to use it.
Hopefully when you turned off Norton's you put something else on to protect your computer... or it won't take long before you don't need to worry about viewing images because your computer will be trashed or a zombie for someone else. On average it only takes 15 minutes for an unprotected computer on the internet to be found and zapped. I've done tests and it's interesting how fast it happens.
