Just wanted to gear up for the new year already. I would like to share a few things I have achieved in 2007.

First off. I was diagnosed with type 2 diabetes in March of 07. It is now Dec. 07 and I have completely reversed this disease through a controlled diet and LOTS of exercise. I feel so much better. My blood pressure and cholesteral readings are way down too. Wow.

Secondly, trying to control the diabetes has left me 35 lbs lighter and feeling great! Now ain't that a bitch! :)

Thirdly, I have just completed & passed my highschool equivalency exam! (today) and can finally claim its benefits in my life.

Fourthly, I have decided to downsize my life, get a smaller house (actually a condo) and escape the trappings of a complicated life where I can travel more and spend less time cleaning, doing yardwork and storing crap.

How's that for a year?

Wow, that's awesome, congrats!

(I didn't do anything in 2007, maybe next year)

went from taking almost no pictures of people last year to shooting portraits of about 400 people this year.

finished an Ironman triathlon in under 14 hours.

finally got the paperwork completed and graduated on my PhD.

Good job on the diabetes and weight loss!

Not meaning to hijack, but would be really interested in how this was done (perhaps another thread).

- started my own business with ups and downs
- first real exhibition
- learned a lot at study
- published 4 times in a big Dutch Photomagazine
- done lots of TFP-shoots with models
- did a clown-project
- did a big shoot at a vintage-store
- next week an interview with me (6 pages) in the same big Dutch Photomagazine.

Hmm. I did a lot. Lots of good stuff anyway!

A lot happened in my 2007..
Moved to a new city in march, met my new girlfriend on july 15th in a bar, she was on vacation from Israel.. Slept over that night, and never left. 2 months later we decided to buy a house together so now we live in a beautiful little house right on the water. Getting married soon :)
Managed to start 2 of my own businesses the last few months which both are going great (photography and e-commerce businesses), and bought myself some real nice photography gear, and we recently bought our first car together.

Half a year ago we were dead broke and all that, things can happen fast.. Just keep fighting for it :)

Kelly, Awesome job on the diabetes and on the weight loss, and Gordon congrats on the PhD! :D

Let's see Start of 2007 Newley married and Broke... very broke... got a new job (in the IT field...ish) and decided that we would take the jump and start a business doing photography. We couldn't get a loan so we had to tough it out and get equipment as we could afford it. got a few weddings in the summer, and now we have more wedding booked for next year already than we did in all of last year!!! also getting into events and schools...

Oh and did I mention my wife had a baby (I say it that way cause I really didn't have a lot to do with that.. exept the obvious... she did all the work)

2007's looking great now (didn't think it would at the begining of the year) hoping I an get out of my day job and do photography full time by summer which would be great cause I could spend more time with my son!

Kudo's to all of you who have perserviered through all that 07 threw our way!

Hmmm, lets see . . .

I got my first DSLR, the Sony Alpha 100.
I got awesome pictures at the V8 Supercars using said camera.
I sent 2 of these photos to Garth Tander, a driver I know, he signed them and I got them framed.
My scores improved to the point where I get disappointed if I'm not over 5.
I got my first 6.
I got a job in childrens portrait photography.
I got a Canon 40D and some nice glass.
I travelled to some of the most desolate yet beautiful parts of Western Australia for work.
I met signal2noise and we had a shoot around Perth twice.
I sold my Sony Aplha to my Dad, now I'll get him hooked.

So yeah, not much.

12/31/06 quit my full time IT job to help run/operate our new business
Our new business made it through the first year in the Black!

Celebrated by taking 2 weeks of vacation (travel) for the first time in years with hubby and the kids! Met Bear_Music during these trips and reconnected with my family who I hadn't seen in a long time!

Little bump in the road the first of October when I got rushed to ER in pain, they found a large cyst, was in surgery a week later. All is well, I've been released to do what I want and feeling really good!

The only unfortunate is that my photography took a back seat to life and the business in 2007. I hope to change this in 2008.

Oh man, it would take a week to list everything that has happened in my life this year! This has been just an insanely busy, crazy year. Here are the highlights:

In January we made a really last minute decision to go on a vacation to Disney World. It was a super fun week, but the few weeks leading up to it were crazy.

In the midst of planning for that trip I ended up in the ER with gallstones.

In March I got my gallbladder out.

In April we decided to remodel our house. so we spent the whole month planing.

In May the remodeling project went really WRONG and our house ended up being torn up for the next two months.

In the midst of that I developed an anxiety disorder, which turned into severe panic attacks. For weeks I could barely leave the house.

In July we decided to adopt a child. We've chosen Korea. So from July to October we were literally consumed with adoption paperwork and red tape. Total craziness. It took us over three months to complete the paperwork. We're now officially approved and waiting to be matched with a child.

In September our dishwasher broke and ruined our brand new wood floors from the remodeling project that we just finished less than six months before. So we had to gut half our kitchen and RE-remodel! That ended up going wrong and it took us two months to get that done. In the meantime we ended up living out of a hotel for a bit.

In the midst of all the craziness this year, this has been the year that I've really tried to work hard on my photography. I took some classes and started making a little money with my photos, which has taken up a lot of my time.

So now here we are in December and I'm completely exhausted by this year! I need a nap!

Here's hoping for a really UNEVENTFUL 2008!!

Now that I look back, 2007 was a significant year for me!

Photographically:
- Had my first gig as a paid photographer (wedding, quite successful)
- Entered a few challenges here after being a forums-only member for a year
- Joined a local photography club and have ribboned 3 times there (2x 2nd, 1x 3rd)

Financially:
- Paid off all of my revolving/credit debt once and for all ($24K in 6 months!)
- Opened a savings account and socked away $10K+
- Maxed out my 401(k), as in hit the $15,500 limit (will be $26K total after company matching!)
[each of the above made possible by working 540 hours of paid overtime]

Personally:
- Graduated from my MBA program
- Celebrated my 15-year anniversary
- Lost 10 pounds (but have probably gained it back since Thanksgiving)

lets see..its been a whirlwind year for me to say the least!

had a good client base in kentucky but closed it down.
Moved myself and my girls back home to Delaware (may)
Seperated from husband when I left
got my 1st "real" (outside the home) job in 13 years (june)
got my own place and my own bedroom (1st time in my life!)(july)
Opened my portrait bizz in Delaware (July)
Did my 1st showing (what a rush that was!)(Aug)
Quit my "real" job to take on portraits full time (Sept)
got all kinds of new toys for my camera for my birthday (nov.)
just did my first wedding and no bridezilla! (dec 1st)
Opened my frist checking account (tho theres no $ in it)
got a gift membership here (thanks again Art Roflmao)

I Learn ALOT of invalueable lessons this year. you can never really know anyone no matter how much you want to believe you do.
I learned that no matter how little you have, be grateful for it, because in the blink of an eye even that could disappear.
and Kids understand way more than we think they do!

ETA: the best news of the year..I lost 65 pounds and all with out any fad diet, weightloss pills, surgery, starvation ect. I did it the old fashioned way..determination! :D :D

I don't remember much of 2007 so I suspect I had a good time. I doubt I got much accomplished as I'm sure I slept a third of the time. :)
