Hi all,

As you may know, the past week or two I asked for some suggestions regarding photo opportunities in and around the Charlotte area (I was going to visit there for business). Well, the trip was last week and I stayed over the weekend and shot the photographs below.

Although I didn’t have time to visit all suggested locations, I want to thank everyone that responded. By the way, I also went to The Light Factory (but didn’t take my camera in). There were some very stunning photographs exhibited there.

Click on each photo below to view them:

Charlotte Skyline - shot from the Central Ave overpass at Prospect St.
Manual/Bulb mode; 67 s at f/22, ISO 100, focal length: 41mm, tripod with IS turned off, wireless remote shutter release, graduated ND filter set to only cover the top 1/4 of the composition to avoid over exposing the lights on top of the Bank of America building

Hay Bale - somewhere on Highway 64 between Etowah and the Pisgah National Forest
Manual mode; 1/10 s at f/14, ISO 200, focal length: 28mm, hand-held with IS turned on

Looking Glass Falls - Pisgah National Forest
Manual mode; 1/10 s at f/11, ISO 100, focal length: 30mm, tripod with IS turned off, wireless remote shutter release

Vintage Steam Locomotive – North Carolina Transportation Museum (in Spencer, NC)
Manual mode; 1/8 s at f/8, ISO 400, focal length: 28mm, hand-held with IS turned on

Speeding Train – North Carolina Transportation Museum (in Spencer, NC)
Shutter Priority mode; 1/4 s at f/29, ISO 100, focal length: 44mm, hand-held with IS turned on

I didn't know you were going to be up in these parts. Looking Glass is almost literally in my backyard. Well, the Pisgah national forest, anyway.

Great shots and I hope you enjoyed our little part of heaven. :)

Thanks, Karma. Yeah, too bad you didn't read this thread. ;-)

I didn't stay in Pisgah Nat'l Forest that long. After shooting the falls, I ended up having lunch at Hawg Wild Bar-b-que before heading back to Charlotte. Have you eaten there?

Can't say I've ever dined there. I do recall seeing it, though, I think.

And just for the record, I don't consider Charlotte "local." it's out of the mountains, you know.
