Black with no hue, that means no black person!

so back to my original question. i have a clearly black subject, but it's not all black. what percentage of the shot should have absolute black? a nice textured black satin would work, but any shimering light reflecting from it wouldn't be black. the quote from the dictionary was given as a guideline. otherwise anything other than a completely black screen wouldn't be acceptable. I'm just trying to expose some peoples rigidity as absurd.

This is insanity, I tell you. Insanity. Black, smack. Just let me look at all the pretty pictures and I'll vote the way I want to vote. Geez. We can't even have a challenge with something as basic as black without getting the "not on challenge" stuff.

Couldna said it better myself.
My goodness.
It's BLACK.
Do it the way you think you oughta, vote the way you think you oughta. Relax.
Have fun! Be creative. Don't aim for a high score, aim for your own vision. If your vision is true and you execute it well the rules won't mean diddly, anyway. We've all seen the truly great image take the ribbon that less well done would have been an also-ran because it was "nebulous" in terms of mainstream sensibilities regarding it being on topic. Um, yes, I need to go to sentence structure school.

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my black image. And if it scores low I'll still LOVE LOVE LOVE it.

Hey Catherine. I love my entry and think it could be one of the best I have done, and I will continue to think that no matter what score it gets. I will continue to think that until I take another that I think is better. But, I'm so fickle, I love almost all my photos.

Then you're enjoying what you're doing. That's what we're supposed to be doing.

ok. i've posted lots on this thread and perhaps people are getting sick of my thoughts... but perhaps this is the last one.

after voting and looking at the images, here is my view.
the challenge was about 'things' that are black.

birds are black, bags are black, souls can be black, hearts can be black, room ambiances can be black, people can be black, a picture of a white object underexposed is not.
