Im having a serrious issue here...my computer (windows XP sp2) works fine for @45 seconds then the whole thing freezes for a good 5 seconds. Its taking a good 30+ minutes to open a photo on my PS7 just to do basic edits. Im going on 15 minutes to save/close the photo just so i can open it up in my noiseware...then i will need to reopen back in PS. Ive tried scaning with norton and nothing is found now. I did have an issue with troj.vundo but that has been deleted now. anyone have an idea how to fix this POS and still get my wedding photos edited from saturday.....Im pulling my hair out here!!!!
~~Cher~~

ps...I have also done a windows reinstall thinking that its missing a file but didnt fix...at this rate Ill have the photos ready for the client in a year...ugh

How much free space on your hard drive? Have you used it all up, and need to get some files off to make some space???

check how many CPU cycles you're PC is using, Press ATRL-ALT-DEL aned bring up the task manager, click on `processes` then click on the CPU field to sort by CPU usage, if something other than `system idle processes` is taking up a fair % then that could be where to start looking. let us know and we'll go from there.

What is your memory like? While you are trying to do something that is taking a long time open up your task manager. You can do this by right clicking on your program bar, on an empty spot where it shows all the programs that you have open, then there is an option for task manager. There are a couple of things you can look at. On the performance tab the first graph shows your cpu usage, and the second shows your memory usage. If they are both way high, it is time to upgrade. Second on the process tab there should be a column that shows memory usage click on that twice, once to sort lowest to highest, a second to sort highest to lowest, and you can see what programs are taking up the most amount of memory. Try this and see if you are just low on memory, or even cpu. Sorry if you know how to look at all this already, I just don't know how familiar you are with things.

Format and reinstall.

I try to do it once a year just to keep things clean.

That is a nice idea, I agree that it is a good thing to do. I format my computers regularly too, but a lot of people don't want to deal with that task. Lets see what is using up the memory and/or cpu first, unless you really want to format, that would definitely fix your problem. Unless your computer specs just aren't up to the PS expectations.
