I've recently started using Lightroom. I've come across a problem that I hope someone can help me out with.

When we shoot a wedding both -bec- and I are shooting at the same time, but obviously from different spots. I am going through and processing the RAWS from a recent wedding and trying to combine photos from both of us into the catalogue, which is easy enough. The problem is sorting the photos into order. Unfortunately our times on our cameras are set slightly differently so I can't sort them by capture time. Our filenames are doubling up in spots so sorting by filename is no good, as well as our cameras clicking back over to 0000 so some from near the end of the wedding show at the start.

I guess my question is, in Lightroom, is there a way to manually move individual pics around into the order that I want before I convert them at all? I'm trying to avoid lots of manual file renaming and sorting later.

Many thanks if anyone has an answer!

Neil, there is supposed to be a way, but I needed to do the same thing recently and got quite frustrated by it. Luckily I was only dealing with about 180 shots so my solution was to drag/drop them into order in their folder, mass rename, then re-import in the correct order in LR. Not the most efficient method. I await a better answer here.

Hmmm...I just found that I can modify the capture time on the photo so I could go through and modify the photos with the incorrect time to the correct time. Tedious but it's possible. Then I can just sort them in capture time order!

I run into the same problem when i shoot sporting events. I borrow a friend's camera, and our times don't match up. What i normally do is edit the capture time, as you mentioned, but you can select all the pictures from one camera and LR is smart enough to move all the pictures times by the same amount. So... select all the photos, alter the first picture's time, and the rest will move by the same amount. It's actually pretty cool! Hope that helps

I have been using lightroom now for sometime and I don't think that you can sort this way. My best suggestion is that you create new folders [under library] and import your images there, then create another folder and put your wife’s pictures there.

Another suggestion is that you change the numbing on the camera, mine was something like DSC_0001 but when I bought my new one I made sure that I could change it to DSC0001, So you don't dup files I would also create a folder that is sorted my date; year-month-day, 2007-11-29, This keeps all files away from others. If you shoot 2 weddings on the same date (or different images) then name your folder year-month-day-time, 2007-11-29-1534

You know you can also open images by camera only under the metadate tags.

Hey! This pretty much solved my problem. Thanks heaps for that. I never thought of selecting them all!
