I have been very interested in getting a fisheye lens and I am unsure which would be best for , # 1. my camera 40D canon,#2 and cheap but yet great quality. I know I am not being very pacific. Just wondering because it's a len, that only has one job function and I just wondering if its worth the fact that I want to play with it and try things out . I have heard it's fun at first then after awhile move on, but it looks really fun to try out. can any one help me figure this out lol.

I have the Canon 15mm 2.8 fisheye and love it. But yes, it has a very specific purpose. Here are some sample images taken with it just a couple of weeks ago:

This lens is so wide that, when I turn it vertical, I have to be careful not to shoot my feet!

One thing to be aware of: All of these were taken using the Canon 5D which has a full frame sensor. Using the Canon 40D you will not get the "full effect" of this lens because some of the great distortion of the image occurs around the edges.

For the cropped sensor, you might consider the Peleng 8mm lens instead.

thank you for the advice, wonderful pictures :]

I just wanted to know for my 40D due to I got it a month ago and its not as great as the others that I work with , but I love it ,it works great and you are right about the different effects, I will look in on peleng 8 mm lens, even though the 15mm 2.8 was what I was thinking, but I want a lens that works with the 40D , thank you so much

Cheapest is the Zenitar 16mm f2.8 which is designed for FF.

The Tokina 10-17mm fisheye zoom is quite affordable and will provide a diagonal 180 degree fov on APS-C bodies at 10mm.

There's also 2 x new third party offerings being the Sigma 4.5mm circular fisheye and the Sigma 10mm f2.8. Haven't seen pricing yet though.

bazz.
