I see a few people have added the D300 in their profiles... just wondering if people are actually getting them in hand yet. I pre-ordered mine through Ritz at the beginning of October, but haven't gotten any messages to say it's being shipped yet.

I've heard of other people getting notice that it's arriving at their brick & mortar stores, etc. Just wondering if anyone has gotten a shipping confirmation, etc. yet, since this week was supposedly the time it was to be released.

Here's the first thread thaqt I saw started by a holder.

B&H is out, J&R are out online and at their stores so my guess is that yours will be delivered in round two. Hopefully quick and I bet it won't be nearly as slow as the D200's initial release lag.

I hear it's better all around from the D200 so I'll pick one up myself.

If you're interested in seeing sample images pbase always has a lot of people posting sample/test shots.

I got my D300!
And I can tell all the Nikon shooters.... It's well worth the money to upgrade!!!!!!!! And If I didn't know any better, it's much better than the D2xs!

I wonder if it's worth upgrading from the D200.

I picked mine up Wednesday morning and i'm loving it. Pretty steep learning curve from the D70s for me, tho.

I picked mine up Friday morning. I have played around a little with it and love it so far. It is a big upgrade from my D50, so I am still learning and reading the 400 page manual that came with it.

I plan on going out tomorrow and do some shooting, I will try and post some shots.

There are some good examples here that compares same shots to the D200.

That's good justification for dropping $$$ on it, however more "objective" reviewers would say the benefit to cost isn't that great. If you are looking for a second body for your D200, sure, go get it and make your current D200 #2, however there aren't enough improvements to justify the purchase of a D300 if you are happy with your D200.

I had a look at the latest issue of the Japan Camera magazine in a bookshop today, announcing their Camera of the Year. The Nikon D3 was CotY, one of the Canons was 2nd (sorry, I'd be wrong if I tried to recall it, but one of the professional Canons). The Nikon D300 was third.

I pre ordered from Ritz also and didn't receive any information on the shipment when they were released so I called. They said if I was lucky, it would be in the shipment coming out in December. I was too impatient so I canceled and bought from buydig.com the same night and the next day it was on the delivery truck. From what I hear, buydig is now out of stock, but you can order from Bestbuy.com, as they have them in stock.

I should receive mine Tuesday and I'm SO excited and anxious! :)

I've never understood how companies can offer an award to a camera thats not even on the market yet. They have done it for years but it just doesnt make sense to me how they do that.

Been going on for centuries. Companies paying the newspaper/magazine to write the good review or give the reward, etc. Used to be a real problem with newspapers.

They actually had lots of professional photographers and camera writers test all the cameras; their profile pictures were in the pages before all the write-ups. They would have used pre-release models. But, hey, this is Japan - maybe it already is on the market. ;-Þ

I agree that for those who already own a D200 the D300 would not be a justifiable upgrade.

Now if your talking the D3 that is another story. I'd love to have a D3 and my D200. The D200 would house my long lenses for wildlife / nature photography and the D3 for landscapes and the rest. Oh what a life that would be ......

Woo Hoo... or at least I'm on my way to Woo Hoo...:

Good news!

We were just informed by Nikon that your new NIKON D300 DSLR CAMERA BODY ONLY is en route to our warehouse.

As soon as we receive the shipment, your new NIKON D300 DSLR CAMERA BODY ONLY will be on its way to you!

Sincerely,

Hah, ask the guys over at NikonCafe about the upgrade from the D200. They have a whole different story to tell, and while I don't have a D200 and my D300 should arrive Tuesday, I'm believing them. This is one amazing camera.

Yep, like I said, you're in the second wave. You'll freak out over the vast difference between it and the D70, as I'm sure you already know.

As for those who don't think it's worth the upgrade from the D200. Well, the image quality is better by all reports, as is the noise, by far. The battery life is better and the larger viewing screen is supposed to be amazing.

It really boils down to the money. For me, just to reduce the noise from the D200 is worth the cost.

Alan-Have fun!

Here is a jpeg right out of the D300 with the 18-135mm lens. The only thing I did was resize the image.
